I believe that a part of the problem with the detent spring is the way it is installed. The natural tendency is to use long nose pliers but I believe that these will make a minute nick on the spring which weakens it, eventually allowing it to break. I say this because everyone that I have seen has broken in the same place. It should be installed using a smooth rod to slide it into place.

Its kind of weird but I do not think its th edetent sprin pr you would have problems in more then one gear and i believe most of them were in th eupper gears not second. I suppose it could be your dogs on second are slightly rounded off pluss the sprocket spoke on the internal of the second gear cluster. where mine were probably more rounded which made it kick out of second gear at a lower rpm. I am just guessing though as I would open up the front to inspect the detent area on mine before I jerked the engine out. Either way since yours is in the two year warranty limit it should be covered. It sounds like you have a good dealer to work with so far.

If you ever saw Steel, you would understand how/why the corners of the second gear cluster could be rounded. It takes a lot of torque to get that much mass in motion. Oops! No offense Ben!

Having seen Steel, if I was a dealer it would be "We'll get that done as soon as possible SIR !" ;)

Well the dealer sent the info to Triumph. They said they couldn't do anything with the car tire on it. It needs to be returned to stock, then they will address the issue.
So that means when I get off the rig in 2 weeks, I'll have to go pick up the bike 90 miles away and change the back tire, then bring it back (another 90 miles) and hope they will honor their warranty.

Just got mine back with second gear fixed, oh and a little bit extra.
