20K servicing

Well the RedRocker has almost exceeded 18,000 miles so will soon be needing a 20K service. A lot of miles have been put on in the past few weeks, so checking the service workshop manual, ive placed a few orders for parts....

2 x Triumph Oil filters = £15 from local dealer

From Opie Oils where I get a bit of a discount:

12litres (enough for 2 bikes filter/oil change) of Castrol Power 1 GPS 10w40 semi-synth = £58.39

6litres (enough for 2 bikes having a coolant flush) of Motul INUGEL EXPERT ready-2-use coolant = £22.22

I am having difficulty finding the final drive (gearbox) oil specified in the workshop manual "MOBILUBE SHC 95/W 90 FULLY SYNTH" - anyone got any ideas where I can get it or an alternative?

Also, will need replacement crush washers for the drain plugs. I will ask at the local dealers when I go get the 2 oil filters but does anyone else have any ideas of a supplier?

Apart from the engine/gearbox/coolant changes - the air filter needs replacing, but im going to run K&Ns on both bikes so dont need to bother replacing that at the moment.

The headstock bearings need checking and greasing - but since im putting the new black forks/yokes on the custom bike - I will be putting the current ones off the custom rocket on the red one, so can check and grease at that time.

Anything else needed doing? Fuel filter?

Martin is changing my fuel filter, oil, oil filter, air filter and rear gear oil. I'm at 25k miles. Leigh-he said the local Triumph/Ducati/BMW combo shop recommended & we use the BMW super synthetic SAE 75w 140 Gear Oil. Works good for us so far, been using it for the 45k miles on Martins Rocket. by the way, Stebel horn is finally in. WOO! love it!

Thanks MsLizz (and Martin) - I will stop off at the BMW shop and see how much they will stiff me for a bottle of the good stuff.

you change the plugs at 20 thou too i think . I got quoted best part of a grand down here . Prob like you do it myself . Plenty of help with this site if get lost . whats with the two oil filters , wheres the other one for ?????

the 2nd oil filter is for the 2nd rocketIII :twisted:

plugs are changed on the 30,000 mile service according the Triumph sheet I have.

Got a litre bottle of Mr BMWs special gear sauce so all set for the weekend.

My local Triumph dealer chucked in a bag of drain plug crush washers which saves me hunting around for a source. They dont cost much but its little gestures like that which I remember.

Where did you mount your Stebel ? I used the ideas in the "how to" section and seperated the horn from the pump and then put the horns behind the stock horn cover buck rogers thing. Put the pump behind the left side cover. When I got the bike, the Stebel was mounted above the radiater on the right side, looked like crap ! They sure are nice when someone has their head up their arse !

Leigh, its not mentioned enough but as long as your putting all that hard work into the bike you should not ignore the drive shaft splines. Honda has a nice moly lube. I do mine everytime I remove the wheel in fact the Triumph Tech that did my upgrade kit complimented me on my spline maitenance. He said 9 out of every 10 bikes he does are ignored and it was nice to see one in great shape. I have 43K of hard thrashing and even though I have an extra rear differential I hope to never have to use it.

There is space for the STEBEL COMPACT NAUTILUS under the left hand panel - you just need a little bracket to mount it. Thats where mine are going.
