Thanks Ygransom. I was hoping for 500lbs or more, but If I drop 10 or 20 pounds (which I certainly need to do) then the two of us with some luggage and gear should make the 485 lb maximum.
I'll probably test ride at the next truck demo in the Fall and then make a decision.
Want to be comfy while cruising? I just listed two of my R3T seats on fleabay.
I own 4 seats and finally narrowed my saddle choices to two: the stock seat (if I ever sell my Touring) and the Long Haul touring seat.
If anyone's looking for some very comfortable seats, look no further (or is it farther?).
Anyhow, my blue marshmallow road sofa is for sale along with my entire touring set (backrests, sissybar bag, chrome rack, etc. if anyone's interested. The last one is covered in faux black alligator.
I just think they're different animals. Don't know what the OP considers to be "touring", but I don't really think of the R3T as a true "Touring" bike. It's a fine bike, but it's not in the same league (in terms of features) as the BMW, or Goldwing. I just think the OP should spend some time on one before dropping the coin.

I love long-distance touring but refuse (so far) to do so on a Goldwing or Ultra Classic. Both are fine bikes, but not my style.
Like many of you Rocket Captains, I've pulled into gas stations in BFE, where there were dozens of bikes parked. The Triumph always elicits positive comments while the Goldies are plugging in their heated vests.
No, I want a "real" bike until I absolutely must buy a GW and get my AARP card.
But I will be as comfortable as possible while doing so...
I'm the same way. Goldies aren't my style either. My Tiger 1050, with panniers and top box loaded up, is my touring bike. It's also, with panniers and top box removed, my sport bike.
