2 Rockets Compare Dobeck Performance AFR Plus to TuneECU - Long Post

For $20 you can buy a cable, open the secondaries with TuneECU and gain significant power. On a 2005 with TORs, it was about 12 ft lbs peak torque.

What I'm saying is whichever way you go PCV-A/T or Dobeck you'll probably need TuneECU as well. Tune ECU will allow you to lift some base map restrictions like secondary throttles - PCV/DOBECK will then sort the fuel mix. I use both.

Thanks, I'll pick up the tuneecu first as soon as I find a cable and wait to add the PCV
when I am able to install the filter upgrade.

My Dobeck AFR Plus worked great while at RAA 9 in Montrose, CO. I didn't feel any power loss or have any difficulty running over the mountains of CO. Even the ride up Pikes Peak went very well. My run on the Bonneville Salt flats went well too. And I got the best fuel mileage on that trip 40 to 46 mpg. I am very impressed with the Dobeck.

Bill, I am amazed at this comparison...thank you for doing all this work. I just bought a R3 Touring and am just starting the process of Tune ECU and trying to figure out all this stuff.....all my previous bikes I just used a Power Commander V and downloaded maps....this is somewhat confusing to me, but I'm slugging it through!

The good news is, I live in Boise, so the people you mention in your post are accessible to me as well....that helps!

Hi Chip. The AFR Plus really makes a very noticeable difference to my standard. However the TuneECU download from PowerTripp makes a huge difference to the Touring. I loaded that tune into a friend of mine Touring (he lives in Boise too) and we couldn't believe the jolting improvement. Needless to say he was very happy with that tune upgrade.

All,

After a forum conversation with Bill (Idaho Red Rocket 3) and a chat with Dillon at Dobeck Performance I've decided to order a Gen4 AFR+ for my 2009 standard. I have D&D slip-ons (cat eliminated) currently fitted with the OEM air filter but a RamAir filter is on order.

I'll do a write up of how it all works out at the end of this month.

Best regards,
Mark Dunn
