Just bought a new to me 05. Has new tires and (seller says)$1500 aftermarket exhaust. Wineberry color. Had a Valkyrie and it was pretty fast, Still have a VTX 1800 and it is pretty fast. Rocket? OMG, it is insane. Don't know why I buy performance bikes. I am a 65 year old retiree that rides like Gramma. Just something left over from being a lifetime hotrodder and shadetree mechanic I guess. Only issue it has is rattle can noise with only 8900 miles. Reading here about how to correct. Paid 7K for it.

Poor thing's hardly been ridden! Welcome aboard mate. I always liked the VTX; almost bought one, but not in the same league as the Rocket. Sounds like you're onto that rattle - plenty of info on here about it.

Congrats mate and welcome from Brisbane Australia.
Sounds like the timing chain thingo...
Might want to get in touch with Warp9.9 he's the man on this stuff. He has upgrades etc....
Mind you he's a bit banged up at the moment, might want to give him some time.

30,000 on my 05, rode 14 hrs yesterday on my way to RAA, still got 3 more to go, rocket running as new!

I have an early '05.. 76K+ miles and rode to work this morning.. Wish I was riding to RAA!! :) Sometimes the 'rattle can' noise is just the chain that drives the oil pump. I used to have that noise if my bike sat for a few days. It was only noticable when the bike was cold and after a few minutes would go away. But since you mention it, I don't think I've heard that noise in a long, long time. If the noise doesn't ever go away.. it may be a timing chain issue, like was previously stated...

Your bike will also shift smoother once you get more miles on it. My transmission, on all three of the Hinckley Triumph's I've owned, smoothed out alot at about 40K miles.

My dad's been riding high performance bikes since I can remember. Right now he's got a Kawa Concours 1400 which isn't exactly a supersport, but still a ****ed impressive machine. When he came back from taking my rocket out for a spin he was totally blown away. "The high speed roll on from that bike is unlike anything I've driven." he said, and "The power of that thing is borderline scary." He's never taken a shine to any cruiser before but I know he's mulling over getting one himself.

There's really nothing else quite like a rocket! Welcome to the forum and good luck with your noise issue. If I weren't such a pathetic novice I'd try to offer some assistance myself!

Paint Can Rattle

My 05 had that rattle for the last 10,000 miles I owned it. I ran it hard and never had a problem. You definitely would be better offf eliminating it if possible but, I wouldn't let it worry you any.
