    183.48mph, and it's getting faster...

That's a fantastic article... I've been over it a few times. There is a 'Graph Paper' method for finding CoP that Randy Speranza was telling me about at the 'ol Salt Flats Cafe... I may try a few different methods to calculate CoG/CoP and see if/how they deviate. Back to the drawing board, as it...

    183.48mph, and it's getting faster...

I'll get the bike back/unloaded sunday.... I'll throw on my gear and weigh it all out Monday with any luck. I need to determine the center of pressure as well... I have a feeling I'm not going to like what I find there. As far as the weight goes, I remember taking off like 140lbs of junk street...

    183.48mph, and it's getting faster...

I'll have to do the split weights again... maybe next week when I get off shift. Race weight is somewhere in the 960-980lb range. IIRC, the CoG is surprisingly far back with me on it.... need to 2x check that, though.

    183.48mph, and it's getting faster...

It got me pretty good... I'd call it a dry bite at the least. I'll get to the bottom of it at some point, just need a break from it for a little bit.

Used a Kawasaki Concours 1400 wheel... machined a cush drive adapter and welded it to the stock wheel drive. I believe the bearings where a direct swap.

    183.48mph, and it's getting faster...

My brain tells me no, but I'm not particularly confident in my brain at this point. I remember having a bit of the same issue before I put the tank on the front, so I'm leaning toward something else. I'm going to start with re-checking all my bearings/pivots for tightness, and then the alignment...

    183.48mph, and it's getting faster...

Honestly, it was a Jesus Take The Wheel situation.... it was complete out of my control. I was just waiting for it to slow down enough that I could get clear of it when it highsided. It gathered itself up around 30-40 mph, and I have no idea how. The problem shows up around 150-160 mph.... this...

Just had some Dunlop Q tires on it... 17" rims. It went 209.03 in May, but I have a pretty serious stability issue I have to figure out over 160mph.... it tried to kill me proper at the Bonneville motorcycle speed trials last week. More to follow on that.

Rocket 3 ready to go racing at Bonneville Speed Week 2024

All fair criticisms, honestly... it's a bit baffling how the AMA/FIM is less organized than a 'lil California club racing association, haha. To be fair, it has been a bit better since I started back in 2017.

Rocket 3 ready to go racing at Bonneville Speed Week 2024

Congrats ya'll!! Salt has been good to the Speed Week folks this year! Ever thought about attending the BMST event? Different record book, all motorcycle, great atmosphere... and the hotel rooms are actually affordable then! :)

Something Broke ( gonna make more powerful 220hp coming up)

Did you ever do the Robinsons service/gear? I did their billet 4th gear when I did the circlip upgrade out of an abundance of caution.... now I'm glad that I did!

100% correct, and I'm F'ed up like a football bat. Thank you for the correction! I have my head in that era of Kawasaki/Suzuki still.

Pic for reference... it does share the shaft with the secondaries... though I couldn't in good faith tell you if the secondaries have any effect in that complicated looking spring fest.

Something Broke ( gonna make more powerful 220hp coming up)

Are you sure about that? the end of the shaft has some interesting linkage on it that involves the primary butterfly shaft. If you just remove the plates it wouldn't be an issue, but the removing the entire shaft deletes that.....not that I've tried to set up idle control on a stand-alone...

The not fun part about racing R&D is the research part, every time.

Can you tune/program the secondary plates with the software you have? If so I'd leave em in... no real loss of power there, and you get to keep half of your idle control system.

Depending on the direction of rotation, that could be the thrust loading from the gears themselves... helical gears are incredibly strong for a given engagement/tooth depth, the downside being that they develop thrust forces parallel to the shaft that try to slide the gears apart.

Something Broke ( gonna make more powerful 220hp coming up)

It's not super intuitive the way that thing goes together... the first time I took it apart was a bit of scary trial and error with the 20 ton press. Being less adverse to reading the manual helps me too, almost every time. Another good vote for a properly set up quickshifter though... it...

Outstanding... I'll start shaking trees with a few machinists and see what falls out. If you ever get to the point of power adders/high rpm and want Carrillo rods made let me know, I'd be happy to share the order # for mine.
