The shifter threaded rod is very short at this location and is kind of sketchy; I'm going to move the connection point to the toe shifter section. I'll dig up the photos and post the procedure. All told I have 40 hours of fabrication time and $100 invested. For more than 4" you'll have to...

For a 4" relocation, you'll have to rework all of the forward curves to make it fit. You also have to rotate the crash bars forward by cutting and rewelding the seams at the attachment points. Very simple procedure but you have the cost to rechrome them.

The foot controls are actually pretty easy to move. For a 2" relocation, it's really simple to cut out the whole floorboard assembly, cut out the section of tube ahead of it, and reweld it. The two sections can be butt welded but I had access to a metal lathe and made a couple of spool pieces...

I'm 6'5" as well and know your pain well. I moved the floorboards 4" forward, added Rivco risers, and have a custom seat that moves me 2" back and 1" up. I'm working on some 7" risers right now to finish the job. In hindsight I should have moved the floorboards 6" forward as I am all legs...

Help please, 08 R3T not starting

I'm not entirely sure how I bent them either, it apparently doesn't take much force to bend the 5 mm valve stems. There are two points of extra resistance when pulling the crank through due to actuating multiple sets of valves and I must have mistaken it. I guess the take away is to absolutely...

The valve guides are okay which is a big relief. I managed to tweak two of the exhaust valves as well as all the intakes @ $52/ea. All told this is a $750 parts bill but I should have it back on the road next week. I have a planned ride with another couple starting next weekend and the wife...

Help please, 08 R3T not starting

This started out as a valve shim adjustment on the exhaust side but I don't have an alignment dot on the crank gear. I marked the chain and sprocket on the cams and crank with a Sharpie before disassembly but somehow I messed it up.

Help please, 08 R3T not starting

Well, I bent all of the intake valves but it doesn't look like there's any damage to the pistons or the exhaust valves. Heading to the machine shop now for a better assessment.

Lots of gap now. I hooked it up to compressed air with all valves closed.

Claviger - Could you explain the ignition timing to me? How does the ECU know which stroke the crank is on a startup? Doesn't disconnecting power make it reset? I'm still not sure how to get the crank a full rotation out during the timing adjustment but I'm sure a handful of us will run into...

Help please, 08 R3T not starting

Well the problem has finally been identified, I pressurized the cylinders and blew air out all three intakes. I didn't even touch the intake cam or shims during this process. It sure seems like I would have felt it when the piston bent the valves, apparently it doesn't take much force. The...

I changed all of the exhaust shims and have checked the clearance several times afterwards with consistent results.

There are several threads on the subject of the crank sprocket missing the alignment dot and having to use these dots instead: Link Removed

Help please, 08 R3T not starting

I have triple checked the valve clearances and they are right on. There are photos of the cam and crank marks on the first page. I'm at a loss to explain how the symptoms are possible with the timing accurate. I couldn't have bent valves in all three cylinders and it turns over by hand easily.

Stock airbox and filter previously. The extension only hooks up one way, not sure how to test the AIT sensor to verify operation. I didn't take off the MAP sensor hoses, just reconnected the sensor after removing the plenum. All of the hoses and connections seem fine. Any way to test them...

Just checked compression and only have 15 psi on all cylinders, zero with the throttle open (secondaries at 95%). I left all the other plugs in and disconnected the coil primaries per direction on other threads. What did I screw up?

The two dots are on the same side of the crank, you just can't see it in the photo. It's really hard to see without pulling the clutch cover but trust me both dots are lined up. There is no distributor or cam position sensor so I don't believe it's possible to be 180 out. I'm assuming that...

Help please, 08 R3T not starting

I'm the one with the problem. Here are some photos of the cam and crank timing marks as those are the obvious suspects. Helpful tip for anyone that doesn't have the cam jig: Micrometer jaws will fit in the cam holes and one tooth off would be obvious. I used a straight edge to line up the...

    Windshield angle adjustment/shims

If you're looking at taller windshields, another option is to change the angle of the stock windshield. It's pretty quick, easy, and cheap (these words are generally not applicable to motorcycles). I trimmed some composite framing shims to match the bracket profile and bolt holes and inserted...
