  1. gearbox sorted...but new noises !

Well the story continues. Told the problem was that the spring in the cam chain tensioner has lost its "Springiness" Me thinks Why should this happen? Saw machine ripped down at dealers. Exhaust cam looks to all intents and purposes like it's been starved of oil also noted oil pump off the...
  2. EXHAUST CAMSHAFT WEAR!! NORMAL OR ABNORMAL

Thanks Jethro. As they say a picture says a thousand words. The actual tips of my cam lobes are very much more "marred" than these. To put this in further context- How many miles have your cams done. Mine have done 1800 miles?
  3. EXHAUST CAMSHAFT WEAR!! NORMAL OR ABNORMAL

Jethro Re posting of pictures of cams. Would be really helpful if you could. In particular the exhaust cam. There is such a visual difference between the istate of the inlet and exhaust cam. One is as hombre describes. The other nowhere near cheers
  4. TRANNY PROBLEM DEVELOPING

Met one tdealer today said had experienced no problems with R3's and had sold quite a few which is comforting and distressing at the same time, as I seem to have got a "rogue" one then. .
  5. EXHAUST CAMSHAFT WEAR!! NORMAL OR ABNORMAL

Bike currently at dealers stripped down. Done 1800 miles since new (See saga elsewhere) Mechanic satisfied that current problem which occurred after full engine rebuild is to do with camchain tensioner spring etc. Whilst stripped down I noticed that exhaust camshaft appeared to be blueish...
  6. TRANNY PROBLEM DEVELOPING

OH NO NOT IN FOR REPAIRS AGAIN Well exactly 3 days and 45 miles later the bikes back at the dealers. A nice "chunking" noise coming from the cambox/rockerbox area. Awaiting diagnosis and constantly having to chase up dealer to see where they are with at least an inital examination of the...
  7. gearbox sorted...but new noises !

VERY FAIR POINT Actually you are both right. Why would they need to adjust the shims. Noise sounds very valve train" Clicking/chattering in synch with rotation of camgear in heads. There's me stuck thinking about pushrod motors. Looks like it's back to the shop then. The motor is just...
  8. gearbox sorted...but new noises !

Gearbox issue resolved though after 60 miles experiencing really concerning noises from cylinder head area of bike. As it happened after the first cool down after the rebuild I'm pinning my hopes on it being valve noise and it being down to the valve shims needing doing after it has all settled...
  9. TRANNY PROBLEM DEVELOPING

FURTHER UPDATE Now had opportunity to better understand what went wrong in the gearbox. It Would appear that two thrust washers used in the gearbox have a flat side and a beveled side. It appears that these had been installed the wrong way around on assembly of the gear cluster. This...
  10. TRANNY PROBLEM DEVELOPING

REPAIR UPDATE Bike now ripped down by Triumph dealer. Seemingly owing to the abscence of /ill fitting of a part in the gearbox/ omitted or ill fitted at the Factory the gearbox needs to be completely changed. Fortunately for me it's a warranty job (Box alone over £1100.00). I have...
  11. TRANNY PROBLEM DEVELOPING

GEARBOX AND HOPES Regulator, Paul Confirming dealer is not A1 Moto. They have moved to new premises and in fairness they and my other dealer are usually excellent. How excellent my current dealer is will soon be known as the strip down and repair job starts today. So here's hoping the...
  12. TRANNY PROBLEM DEVELOPING

INTRO AND PROGRESS Sorry for no intro. Over here in York, UK. Gone back to Triumphs after many years away. Fell out of love with my T140V many years ago. Good to see Triumph have managed to retain a little bit of their history even if it's the frequetly breaking down elements and poor service...
  13. TRANNY PROBLEM DEVELOPING

Bike has 1500 miles on clock. Now become aware of difficulties in engaging second gear in that there's a nice little cog grind as the gear is engaged suggesting selector fork/dog or other highly inaccessible component has bent. Not good as full motor strip down is required. Not good on a bike...
