Battery Service Life ?

Does anyone know the correct "battery group size number". My auto mechanic came up last night and said he would get me a deal if I knew the CORRECT number. Thx in advance. My Rocket is stored elsewhere due to my remote mtn location but I put a TBird in there with it for company :)

Never had any problems with my batteries over the years, even on freezing temperatures, this coming from someone who knows cold. This is my routine, during the riding season, if the bike is to sit for a week or longer, which is rare, it goes on a tender. Depleting and charging a battery constantly is hard on the battery...without getting into the principals of batteries. Some of the only batteries that can be treated in this matter are deep cycle and LiOn.

When I prep the bike for winter storage I have done this both ways, I take the battery out or let it sit in the bike, getting the battery out of my son's vmax is a pain so the pigtails are put on and the battery stays put. If I take the battery out I put it on the shelf on a tender during the entire time it sits.
Batteries die for any number of reasons but the most common is heat, heat can be generated in any number of ways. Excessive heat absorbed by engines, the sun or over charging. I never charge motorcycle batteries with car chargers, anything producing over 5amps for a prolonged time ( usually over an hour) will generate enough heat in a battery to shorten its life.

On the other side, all things being equal, some batteries just fail and unless you load test them it is difficult to determine why. Keeping a battery properly charged has always served me well.
Cheers

Josey never got answer to his "battery group size number" request.
Me thinks I be needing a new battery and I wish to explore my options.
Knowing the group and size would be helpful in researching.
Naturally I want the STRONGEST one available.
Standard - Gel - ??? - whatever -
Please talk to me . . .

I referred back to this thread from another forum I belong to. http://boulevardowners.com/cafe/index.cfm?page=topic&topicID=157926
Of corse the Intruder takes a different size but I went with the MotoBatt after reading all the tests it was put through, and beat all the others.
I also like that it has 4 posts instead of 2. Made it easier to hook all my wires back up.

We need the MBTX20U Got mine on EBay for $102.55

So, Amigo, MBTX20U at 21 amps it is!
I take it the 25 amp MBTX24U will not fit???

Thanks for taking the time to respond and help me out.

A battery lasts as long as it lasts. Cold hurts them yes. Allowing them to sit drained for any length of time (winter) hurts them. Overcharging hurts them. Overheating them (sumer) hurts them. Hard impacts hurt them.

LifePO4 batteries are pretty solid though, most come with fantastic warranties. I have had an 8 cell Ballisticx in my Daytona for the last 3 years. Had to warranty once after wife didnt start it while I was deployed and it fully discharged. Since then, flawless. More expensive, but much lighter and better tech than lead acid/lipoly/lion.
