Winter solstaice ..uk riders keep the faith summers is coming

Does it really matter that the day is the 21st so much? In the UK the weather is sooooo unreliable planning a ride of more than 2 days ahead proves to be impossible!! You always need to have all-weather gear capable of withstanding -25 to +45 degrees centigrade and certainly water resistant! Oh the joys of some places in the world....just NOT here
It never rains on Dartmoor ! :notworthy:

Yes - I missed the Druid-al gathering at "The Henge". The days are getting longer - but sadly not warmer. Here they seem not to understand Druids - something about an inquisition.

It is however still damp. And the south(south west) is fairly privileged regarding temp's.

A few years ago I drove up to Macclesfield with the missus to see my Aunt who was very ill. It was just after some terrible flooding across the UK. But anyway - we drove up and it NEVER stopped raining. My aunt asks the missus if she is enjoying the trip and the reply was - it would be nicer not driving in the rain. Said aunt looks at the grey sky through wet window pane and says What Rain? - Oh that - that's only drizzle. They had the gas fire on - it was August.

GOC 45°C in the UK. Really :coffee: - That's rare here. What the UK has is a long spate of "pretty much OK" weather. Not too wet, not too cold and not too hot.

Dec 22 is always encouraging for me. Summer is coming. Been extremely cold this year all December averaging -25C but still getting my daily walk in.

Here are a few pics of me walking around the lake in our town 3 weeks ago. A lot more snow now with most side streets snow covered. That's why any time after the Winter solstice encourages us northerners unless you like snowmobiling.

The exact opposite Down under ,this year the longest day was 21 December due to the leap year ,40c plus degree days ,then winter 15c degree days we ride all year round ,I love living in OZ:inlove:inlove
why is it you guys get hot summers and warm winters we average summer and frezzzzing dark winter H

Last year I went up on the R3 to visit my uncle (said aunt, his wife, having passed away) and organised a meet with a couple of t'norveners in Cheshire.
And yes! - it was "not raining" again at Knutsford services. Who here needs explaining why, when threatened with a job relocation to Cheshire, I ran away to Germany?.

The more and longer ime alive the less i understand nature and its weather...today i saw a small bush full of honey bees sucking on the new shoot buds:eek:...number 1 the bees should be dead and number 2 the new buds on the plant are 2 months early:unsure:

I said to my missus that during winter I suffer from PMS - just like her!!! I now know why it’s called the silent killer...
