For those not aware of this, the “Wheels Through Time” motorcycle museum in Maggie Valley N.C. is scheduled to close its doors this November 15th in search of a new home. I recently had the great pleasure of visiting this wonderful place

Their website is great (Wheels Through Time - Home) but only gives a hint of the treasures it truly holds. When you enter the first thing you notice is a light smell of fuel and motor oil with a hint of engine exhaust. That’s because this is a “living” museum. Most of the bikes there are operational. While there, several antique bikes were started up and revved for a minute or two. One was even ridden around the display area by the museum owner Dale Walksler. There also a number of classic cars from the 30’s , 40, and 50,s including a 1952(?) Cadillac once owned by Middle Eastern royalty.

This is an American motorcycle museum, so Harley is well represented but also Indian, Henderson, and Ace just to name a few. Where else could you go to see a Harley Davidson powered airplane, or an Indian powered snowmobile? The museum, displays, and friendly staff are all Smithsonian caliber. The best is the atmosphere. Not only is this for bikers, but anyone who loves old machinery, or just a good slice of history.

Don’t miss it!!!

I thought the opposed twin Hardley was novel. It was only a military issue but just to think that they were that close to building a real motorcycle, then blew it:D

I have been to this museum 2 years ago. I have to admit it wasn't anything special for me. I am not the biggest fan of American bikes so your mileage may vary.
