Just on a whim I checked into trade in value on my 2023 Rocket GT, I cant believe what I got back. On 2 different dealers I got 13,500 and 13, 800.
This is basically a brand new Triumph since it has been snowing since I got it and its still under 100 miles on it.
Anyone turning up at a dealership on an almost new, hardly ridden bike is sending the message they made a mistake and want to get out of it. Or they're just a bloody time waster. Either way, you will get low balled every time. These people are running a business and are not there for your entertainment. Go in when you’re serious about trading and have an adult conversation about negotiating a deal and you’ll be treated like an adult. If you buy a motorcycle expecting it to be an investment rather than actually putting a value on enjoyment then you’re an idiot. Sorry.
It is important to look at mindset. Harley has the HOG, Triumph has the RAT. You Own a Harley and you Ride a Triumph. Says it all really.
So you were serious about selling/trading it after less than 100 miles? My mistake. I clearly misunderstood what you meant by “on a whim”. So why are you getting rid of it so soon?
I was looking at a polaris slingshot, I wanted one when I got the Triumph, but after 5 months of waiting to find one I talked myself out of it.
Now there are 2 in stock here, saw them when I took my grandson to get parts for his dirtbike.
Will probably never get one now.
I told them to give me payoff which is $16,300 and they wouldnt do it.
They were firm at $13,500.
Then i got online just to see and checked trade in value at a dealer in Las Vegas on another ( this was on a whim ) just to see if my local dealer was crazy and they said $13,800.
Both quotes were after tax credits so it would be more like $11,500 trade value with the rest applied to tax credit on the new slingshot.
Sounds good, but whatever the tax credit comes to, that comes out of the trade value. So if the trade in value is $13,500 and tax credit is $1500. That means you are really getting $12,000 for the trade. Dealer wins on this one, because it sounds like you are getting more. They dont really pay the 1500 twords the tax, they just dont have to charge you the 1500. Its a govt incentive.
