Ok so here is a chance to share your opinions, so don't be shy (fat chance! LOL)...

I am in Arizona - it gets 115+ here in the summer, well over 100 for weeks at at time....

I want to get some armored or at least abrasion resistant trousers to wear this summer (so NOT over trousers), pref NOT black, NOT leather as I do NOT wish to combust / die of heatstroke... but I would like a bit more protection than plain old denim....

These are NOT for track use - Triumph Rocket III street use only.

So I am looking for personal experience / recommends to help me narrow down the selection.

Cheers, John.

Well, I've lived in Phoenix for 30 years so I'll venture an opinion.

The minimum I'll wear is Dragin Jeans. They are kevlar lined and offer much better abrasion resistance than regular Levis. That kevlar lining gets a bit warm in the summer though. Riding with a sheepskin seat pad can help, but hot is hot.

You say you don't want overpants, but I'll just add that a mesh overpant can be worn with shorts and provide a very nice breeze for the boys. That said, when it goes over 110 that breeze can be a bit less than comfortable.

If you are willing to spend some money I'd make two suggestions. Check out Motoport as they make some excellent mesh gear that is very highly regarded. Second is the BMW line of clothing. Their stuff is top notch and priced accordingly.

These guys make some good britches. I wear their jeans with the kevlar reinforcement padding on the inside. There heavy and a little warm but should be better protection than regular jeans.

I use cortech Cpx cargo pants .. Nice protection water resistant ... And come in kaki and black. Legs also zip off to convert to shorts so you can stay cool when you arrive

Mmmmmmm

Leather chaps...

and nothing else

Alternatively, I know Triumph do vented trousers - maybe the Raptor range? The jacket is especially good in summer - even though it is black (and therefore stupid, should be white!) perhaps they do trousers?

The H2protec leather jeans they do have some cool tech finish or material woven in that is supposed to reflect heat (how about conduct it from hot legs though...??)

Could always modify this to drill a fine mesh into the leather. Best of many worlds then. No reason why you cant modify things to make them work better for you?

Im a bit dubious about kevlar jeans - unless they have crash pads in the hips and knees.

summer/winter pants

Rev-it makes nice mesh pants with a liner for weatherproofing ..wear long johns under in cold/wet weather and take liner out in summer..yes they are black as well as my mesh jacket(liner also for cold/wet weather). The black is prefered for me as it always appears to be clean and air flows thru black mesh at same turbalance as white mesh..and sets well in my bags and hides winkles.Wear shorts under and you are ready for off-bike experiences!!!REV'IT!
