What Kind of Man/Woman Rides a Rocket?

The video did it for me too. Had to go and try one and that was it.

My Cav Scout son told me to buy it. Well, actually he had a 'come to Jesus' talk with me. He said, "Dad, you know I love you but we have to come to terms with getting older. You crashed your VMAX into the Rockies and then hit a deer on your rehab bike, the FZ1. You need to acknowledge you are getting older. It's time you get a cruiser Dad". So I did. I called him to let him know I took his advice and it made him happy. About five minutes after I hung up telling him simply it was a Triumph Rocket III, he called me back. As I answered the phone, I heard, “WTF DAD! That bike has a bigger engine than my car”. I said I love you too son. You’ve known me for 23 years kid, would you expect anything less from me?!?

Being weened in motocross, and racing desert into my mid thirties all while riding street bikes for commuting and pleasure 'Sport' was usually my focus. A long and enjoyable experiment/ownership of a V-Max and then later a Valkyrie instilled an appreciation for muscle cruisers. When Triumph released and I saw the first R3 I put it on a bucket list of sorts.
Too me the R3 is the personification of an Ed Roth type cartoon, proof that "Size matters" and total vindication that "There is No replacement for displacement".

I have always given a friendly two fingered waive to Harley owners as I swooped past them on my sportbikes. Now I SNEER at them as I Rocket past them

I think it is mainly men who ride Rockets. The title of the post did say what kind of man or woman rides a Rocket, and I think the motorcycle is just too big for most women. The common denominator among men would be a need for speed. Men ride Rockets because they want to go fast. All the rest is just window dressing.

Saw the Rocket Standard in 05, love at first sight. Bought in 06. Nothing on 2 wheels compares. Rode 122,000 Km then bought a 14 Touring in 14. Have 14,000 Km on it. I am 64 yrs old, born in Britain so am proud to ride British Iron.

I'd been riding Triumph Triples since 1978.
In 2004 a mate turned up on a brand new Rocket. WOW. I took it for a spin down the road, going down hill gave it some stick and thought "yea' O.K. it's quick enough", but having been riding all sorts of performance bikes all my life I wasn't overly blown away.
I then turned around and shorted shifted through the gears until I was 3rd, at low RPM I just gave it a handful, the way that Bike just got down and grunted left me really impressed.
I had to have one.
I've had my 06 Classic just on four years now.
Like many others, all other bikes are just too small to even sit on now.

I think a person needs to be a cross between adrenalin junk and attention seeker - and good at justifying as a need something they just want. Plenty of bikes can give an adrenaline rush and there are some that can attract almost as much attention, but nothing satisfies both in the way a Rocket does.

Now if you want to make pure enjoyment your yardstick you're getting into subjective territory and pretty much any bike can deliver.
