They do it with motorbikes and helicopters these days. When severe droughts hit Central Australia they sometimes invade remote Aboriginal communities like Docker River in their hundreds and smash taps and water pipes etc in town to get water.

They came over in the 1800's as pack animals with Afghan, Indian and Pakistani handlers and when replaced by trains and trucks were freed to multiply. The male handlers went home, died or stayed in Australia and married locals, some of their descendants still live in South Australia, Northern Territory, and elsewhere. We have been exporting live camels and meat back to the Middle East and Asia for decades.
