Six species of deer are established in the wild in Australia, having been introduced during the world-wide movement to 'share the world's most beautiful and useful things' as was the objective of the acclimatisation societies which were active in the latter half of the 19th. century. Of the many species which the acclimatisation societies and private individuals introduced, only the chital (Axis axis), fallow deer (Dama dama), hog deer (Axis porcinus), red deer (Cervus elaphus), rusa (Cervus timorensis) and sambar (Cervus unicolor) remain.

Maybe importing Chihuahuas will clean them all up

I have a good Chihuahua story.. about 5 years ago my girlfriend set off to do some errands as she was merging onto the highway she sees this little creature wandering frantically on the road. Afraid it would be killed she pulled over got out of the car and called to it,it was a little chihuahua. The poor thing was scared to death but came running towards my girlfriend,she picked him up put him in the car and off they went. As she was driving the little guy sat in her lap the whole time she was driving in the car. She came home called me down stairs and said guess what i found wandering the highway,afraid it was another cat seeing how my girlfriend is a cat person i wasn't too thrilled to see another cat. She called the Plymouth pound and told Laurie her girlfriend that runs the pound what she found.The next day Laurie called her and said a lady called looking for her lost chihuahua. When she told the lady it was found the lady took all three of her kids out of school and the father came home from work. The whole family came to the house,as she greeted them with the little guy the tears of joy flowed even dad was emotional at seeing the dog safe and sound. Later we learned that they didn't get along too well with the neighbor and he had kidnapped the dog and tried to kill it by letting it lose on the highway on ramp in some attempt of revenge... There's always rats they did a good job of eradicating in the 1800's...
