Well, the night started out great

A new bike we can do, we can't replace you two. So glad you are OK

Having had a very similar experience , I thank the Lord for traveling mercies. I have put a lot of thought on what could be done. One idea is to place a high tension wire from the front of the fender to the top of the triple tree. This might cut what ever you hit with the fromt of the bike. 2nd idea is to put a super charger or a turbo charger, because the high whineing pitch puts out a super sonic noise which frightens deer. 3rd idea is to have a really big rocket with heat seeker to sync with thermal imaging and heads up display and auto matic firing at deer or bear or roos.just spit balling here.

Or have top grade headlights and keep at about 50 on dark unlit roadways.

I have Piaa high output halogens in European code buckets that actually put the light where you need it, as opposed to DOT requirements. I've ridden with people with Daymakers. They definitely provide a whiter light, but didn't notice a "night and day" improvement. Not knocking LED's, but I have less than $300 into something that works just as well in real world conditions.

As for my deer situation, the deer came out of brush perpendicular to the road. It was strictly a matter of timing. Which got me thinking, say you were filming a movie and wanted to recreate the bike hits deer scene, how difficult it would be to time that. It's really a wonder the collisions ever happen. In 40 years of riding, I had never had a "close call" with a deer.

Bummer for sure. Hope you both heal fast, and are able to save the Rocket, especially after all the work you put into her. I still have the stock headlights, and it's very easy to over drive them at night, for sure. Down here in SW Florida we have all kinds of critters, but my worst fear is a deer, or a BIG hog! The hogs tend to rut in the grass on the sides of the highway at night, and when lights hit them, no telling which way they will go, kinda like a flock of buzzards on a carcass.

Sorry to hear about this event. You are both OK and that is the important part. I have a some parts off my 2011 Roadster that I am happy to send you for the rebuild. I will need to go through the box and send you some pictures. I had a close encounter on Thursday around lunch time on a beautiful sunny day with a deer. They are all over the place right now here on Cape Cod. Daytime or nighttime it really doesn't make a difference, animals are everywhere and accidents happen. Glad you and the better half are OK.

Fred, so glad ya'll are ok!
Now for the bad news..... I had a girl back up into my front end of the Rocket a couple months ago. Not near as much damage as you have BUT Snake Farm Ins, the value of the bike, even with custom paint & all ofthe mods, was only about $4500 with 40,000 miles on it. Your mileage is prolly that or more.
I also retained the bike to repair myself. When that happens, they deduct the "salvage value" from the $4500 actual value & pay you the difference. The salvage value was about $2100 - You do the math..........
Now hopefully, the salvage value will be less on yours since it has more parts that are damaged that should knock that salvage value down. you need to make sure & tell them the bike does not crank, won't run, even tell them the engine is trashed. Since it will be considered a total loss anyway, convince them that as many parts are damaged as you can, so that the salv value will be less & obviously less will be deducted from the actual value = more $$ for you
