With a new filter I pour 4 qts in the oil tank. Crank the engine up for 5 seconds. Pour the other 2 qts in. The engine will pull some oil out of the tank and allow room for the last two qts to added.
I don't use the oil dip stick. I kept getting various readings. With the engine hot and the bike in up right position you will notice a baffle running across the oil tank hole. If the oil is just covering baffle you're good to go. I use a flash light.
Once you have added all 6 qts you can make a mental note on how far the baffle is covered so thereafter you'll know if you're high or low on the oil reading.
It's the way I keep up with the oil level. I used the service manual way of doing it and kept getting low reading and then it would be too high after checking afterward.
