Most of you will not remember me. This past spring I had quite a mechanical trip . The previous year I had purchased a 06 R3 with about 30K on the clock.
First thing was the trouble starting in cool to cold weather. Traced the probleml to dirty contacts on the starter. Then installed the circuits from Eastern Beaver to reduce the battery load at starting.
This past winter I was looking at taking it to Daytona , but there was a noise that was bothering me. The dealer suggested that I not take it past the city limits. Turned out to be the output bearings . This meant I had to drop the engine to get after them. While I was at it I also dropped the oil pan and found all sorts of metal flakes in the screens . Dropped the oil flow at least 50%.
Got that all back together , and found that the shaft ( name escapes me) in the clutch was worn out.
Next came the eletrical problems. The bike would not get above 85 and would drink gas like a car in the indy 500 . Changed maps. Wayne Tripp spent a lot of his valuable time trying to help me out. Got some of the bugs out. In June I took it down to him. He said it had a bad problem in the ignition system. But it was working good , like it never had. Got it home , and washed it and the old problems came back.
I got in a used harness. While pulling the old one I found the previous owners had added and subtracted circuits using the quick zip splices. They in-turn let in moisture that caused shorts. The new/used harness fixed that. Wayne had suggested I use a certain map along with the end plate with a 2" hole in it for my supertrapp muffler .
With the 100 + degree weather we have had this past summer , I have not gotten the miles on the bike I would have wanted, but what I have gotten has been great. It rides like the bike I have always wanted.
If it had not been for the advice , hellp , and encouragement that I recieved on theses two R3 sites , I would have parted out the bike.
