Tyre options

Hi all,
Has anyone tried putting the 180/60 vr16 rear which is standard equipment on the Rocket Touring on a standard or classic? I ride mainly twisty touring rides and the need for excessive amounts of "right hand" to stop my baby from running wide on corners is having a severely detrimental effect on the mileage I get from my tyres.
Given that I have read rave reviews about the easier cornering of the touring and that the rear tyre is about the only thing which is different between the two which would impact cornering I thought it might be worth a try.

Any thoughts?
 
It would require a different wheel for that small a tire ... besides , it would look funny.
 
I think the 240 handles great (once I got the hang of it) and plenty of people on this site throw their R3s through "twisties" with car tyres on the back and seem to manage just fine. It's not meant to be a sport bike; maybe you just need to give it give it more time.

Asthetically, picture a car with a space saver spare. Not pretty. Comical in fact.

Not quite sure what you mean by excessive amounts of "right" hand specifically(countersteer???), but if your riding style/conditions don't suit the 240 rear, perhaps a better option for you would be to trade in for an R3T.
 
I put the narrowest ct I could which was a 205x60x16. You would have to check the tire mfg to see rim requirements.

I agree it would look funny and yes I knew I would need a different rim. I was actually thinking it might be an option to "switch out the big tyre in favour of the narrower one when going on really twisty tours.

To the person who asked about my term "too much right hand" I was referring to the extra throttle through turns to counter the understeer I get occasionally.

I don't know how serious I am about this change I just thgought I would see what if any experience people had with smaller rear tyres.

Tires

as far as a car tire, which is on our bike, its awesome! Its 245/50/16, ita a falcon. Didnt have to change the rims out either. Ride is much smoother, leans into curves with no slippage, great in rain, an its over a hundred dollars cheaper than a bike tire. Will never buy any other type tire to put on it, an it will last alot longer, dual passenger, run 40 pounds of air in it!
