Time to move on...

So this guy contacted me today wanting to swap this 1972 650 Tiger TR6R for my Econoline. He says it's been restored but missing the Speedometer. What do y'all think?

Looks very nice. I see it has after market side covers similar to the 60's models to replace the ugly OIF ones. Could use decent mufflers but otherwise seems pretty sound. Does it have electronic ignition to replace the points? I'd guess it does because it has a dual fire coil up front instead of the stock rear mounted pair. Speedo and cable missing. Does it have the speedo drive on the right side of the rear axle? they can be expensive and a good speedo isn't cheap either. Pictures are hard to go by but if it looks "right" I'd say it would go for about $4,500 5,500 around here. Maybe different in Texas? HTH

Thanks for the pointers. Sounds like you know your Triumphs. The good news is it would put a Triumph back in my garage next to my new toy!

One other thing I just thought of. There should be a steel strap under the gas tank just ahed of the exhaust rockers holding the tank "halves together. Two tapped holes in the bottom of the tank. The early tanks didn't have them and the tank would split around the headstock area. Not sure when the change was made. Think '73 when they went to 750 cc. See here page 60. https://bigdcycle.com/tempbooks/tri/750/1973.pdf
Maybe not a deal breaker but a bargaining chip.
P.S. I'm really a Norton guy but just finishing up a '71 Bonnie for a friend and it has the side covers, Electronic ignition, later tank and the front fender with the extra vertical brace just behind the forks which are all good things.

Can you rent an R3 in Germany or other countries in the EU ?
NO in fact I do not think you can rent a bike ( any bike) and go on your own but as a group led by a leader from a touring company such as edelweiss you can

I really like that Econoline project - it can be a real driver - but I love Triumphs. So, what's a man to do? (follow your head and your heart, in that order)!

I passed on the Tiger. Think Im gonna hold out for cash for my T project. Top chopping and glass cutting ain't cheap.

I would keep the Doctors Coupe stock height, they look awesome in Gloss Black( Like all Tees the original colour) ,but if you are going to chop it you picked one of the easiest cars to do, an afternoon with a chalk line and an angle grinder and bingo job done, I would recommend you weld a few temporary cross braces on before cutting , it's surprising how cars distort when you cut the roof ,a nice project either way

Wonder if one of you guys could squeeze one of these car tires under your R3? You wouldn't even need a kickstand!
