THE REBIRTH OF NUMBER 74

Tired of the dog and pony show. You have to clean the parts, Yes it takes time. Very clean polished and all nuts and bolts the same. Oil and grease will be added. Nothing on the floor. You have tools and nuts and bolts on the floor then good luck to you. Yes all labeled and ready. Swing arm bearings and races going to be replaced. No need to talk about it. Swing arm cleaned up a bit You getting a theme here? Hurry up and get it done? Never mind the details. Not in this garage KICKING IN THE STICKS.

Sonny, I'm curious. Did you ever find the missing circlip from this post? Was it broken or did it just slide out of it's groove? I guess that was the issue that cause the tranny problem.

Yeah, I was wondering what the RCA is for the original issue too. I recall your original issue was when under load in 4th gear it judders / slips, like the gears / dogs are disengaging. In my case it was bent shift fork not pushing the output dog across fully so it wasn't 100% engaging which was further compounded by dogs being slightly rounded.

Well the engine I bought was jumping out of forth? No issues to be found except a burnt clutch pack. gonna put her back together. I believe sonny has said his circlip did jump off, pretty sure (5th gear dog is a 3lb hammer)

Missing circlip was the issue. M/T performance confirmed that. I am not a transmission specialist. Did find it in the lower half of the engine casings. Laugh and joke but long after your bikes have become mailbox post mine will still be running . I take my time and clean everything. Plus i spend a lot of time reading and studying. On top of that i do not cut corners. The manual says replace i do that. I do not make tools as I go. I pay for the speciality tools and enjoy using them. It makes the job easy. Yes we bought all new dogs. As I start to rebuild will post. Starting this weekend. The stuff I sent off to get ceramic coated and powder coated is not done yet. So we start this weekend. No need to ride to OKC. Beside all that you all have to remember am doing this with a broken lower back and a Knee that is toast. Most of the time i am in walker or should i say close to a wheelchair. Speed means nothing to me. Doing it one time correctly means a lot more. I figure if i do it right and ask a lot of questions along the way will have no need to tear it apart again in three months. A lot of times I realize your all just dogging me out which I like in a way. I have no ego to get in my way. No pride either. Ok this is starting to sound like a song from ancient history.

Well some ups and some downs. One set of piston rings was not for the Rocket. Two out of three? Was hoping to get all three and install the crankshaft and balancer today. Life goes on. Did find this interesting. Dowel pins are present. Replaced them all They appear to crush as you apply torque to this Imagine that. Did do some odds and ins today. New thermostat installed. New seals on all three and cleaned up. Off to lowe's in the morning for acetone and alcohol. Forgot something All six replaced.
