Stupid little problem, but has anyone else had this - or is there a simple answer? I had to lift the tank to re-route some wiring on my 2007 R3 Classic. When I come to drop the tank back in place, and re-screw it down, I can't get the slot on the tank bracket to match the screw hole? It's like the tank has moved back a few millimetres?. or something strange has occured. it might just be the cold playing with my brain, so I came in out of the garage p'eed off. Any suggestions before I do something stupid? Ron

I'm thinking that after you cool off for awhile, it will fit perfectly. That's usually how it goes for me anyhow. Once I get mad at something I've noticed a little cool down time works wonders...:D

The bracket probably moved when you lifted the tank. Loosen the bolts that attach the bracket to the tank, put the tank back down and move the bracket until it aligns with the hole, then lift the tank and tighten the attach bolts. Blue Loctite will help to keep them from moving again.

Seems odd to me that the tongue would have shifted on it's own. I'm wondering if the tank hinge bolt has somehow worked loose or not been put back properly some time in the past or something. Maybe worth a look there too.

My classic is a bit hard to re-align as well, I just shove the rod in and wiggle as said above.

Thanks for the input guys. I've closed the garage up for a few days while we have some more cold and snowy weather. So will reattempt to unite screw with hole on Thursday when it warms up a bit. Wiggling and inserting rod in hole and all that. Ron

On my 08 std it has always been a bit of pain in the bum to line up but I just give the tank a little wiggle and upward pressure in the direction you need t go to line it up, if you are going to try the method suggested of using the tank stand rod be careful not to damage the thread
