Tail light and indicators not working

Hi,

I have just bought 06 classic and the tail light was not working. Bought a new ignition switch as there was no power going from the ignition switch to the fuse for the tail light but this did not help so took a feed from another switched live in the fuse box.

I also did not have a key fob so the factory alarm had the jumper plug fitted so thinking this may have something to do with it bought another alarm with a key fob and hooked this up. Made no difference to the tail light but the indicators are working with the alarm but not when you operate the indicators although all the wiring seems to buzz out and I fitted another indicator relay

So my question is has anybody seen this before? are the 2 tied in together? no tail light and indicators not working although they work with the alarm.

Tail light does not operate from OEM alarm
The circuit for Tail (Running) Light goes through TWO fuses - Fuse # * & Fuse #10 - if you had no power coming from the Key-Switch then is almost certainly Fuse #8 is bad

The Origin for Turn Signals from the Alarm is different vs the Bar Control Switch - the fact that they flash with alarm proves the lamp fixtures/bulbs are working so that is positive information - but the circuit to flash from switch is different
The power for the Turn Signals originates from Fuse as the Brake Light & Horn - Fuse #4 - so first question there is do those other devices work? If none of them work, problem is Fuse 4

If brake and horn both work, then the most likely issue is the turn signal relay - did you replace the original (was IT an OEM?) with another original? Or with an after-market one? If latter, what is the part number of the relay you have installed?

Regards tail lights went back and checked fuse 8 as knew about fuse 10 and although it checked out continuity it actually was not allowing current to pass so when changed out all ok. Yes have tried 3 different relays as getting supply and ground to the relay no problem and the wire has buzzed out ok from relay to lights so put 12v directly down the line and the indicators light so have ordered a new relay and am waiting to get it.

The reason i asked was,if the headlights have been changed to leds, there will be no park lights in there more than likely. If the park light wires are just pushed in the back of the headlights, then they will short out on themselves as they are a spade fitting. This will pop the fuse which also is connected to the tail light.
Remove the headlights and check. You can either cut the spade fitting off and tape over the wires or put the bulb back in and then tuck the wires in the back which will stop it arcing on itself......i had this problem so i know...good luck.
 
Tal was asking about whether LED Headlights with now unused park/position socket - that is indeed a common problem that an unoccupied lamp socket will short out across the fitting and that is what blows the fuse.

If you TURNS are LED, then you want a CF13GL-02 Relay - note the whole label - JL vs GL has opposite polarity.
Just put that (CF13GL-02) in Ebay search and you'll find lots of sources in the UK
