What I'm thinking about doing is pulling the pipe with the cats out of the car. Cutting the cats out from the top. Rewelding it back together and reinstalling it again with the stock muffler. Pulling the rear O2 sensor and spacing it out with 2 of those plug Fowler preventers.
Why do all that? Country boys normally just normally take a crowbar and smash the guts out of them when they clog up.
To be quite honest I think you are wasting your time. Without a way of tuning it you could be making it worse. Your engine might run better with back pressure. The cai might not 1hp if you're lucky. Meanwhile adding opportunity to suck water and other crap into your engine.
If you had a performance vehicle by all means squeeze every pony out but...
I just noticed my last post was corrected. First word started with a D not an F.
Anyway I took my air box and cut half the back off of it. The motor definitely is less restricted and makes a pleasant vroom sound under acceleration.
