OK - after 1600 km, I've decided that the stock windscreen is about 2-3 inches too short for me. It is well below my line of sight. At 5' 9" I don't think I'm too tall, so that isn't the issue. It's better than no windscreen at all, but there is always wind on my face. My 5' 7" wife says it is "windy" on the pillion.

If I scrunch down a bit, there is a big improvement, so I only need a bit more height. I read somwhere that the alternate Triumph screen is about 6" taller, which would be too tall. Is that height difference accurate? Anyone experiencing the same problem and come up with a solution?

The optional screen is 6 inches taller. At 6'2" I can barely look over the top. Aussiebikerdave has a 4 inch taller screen available. Try here...

The stock windscreen is short for me at 6-0'. I have the taller one and will shorten it in one inch increments. It does have a lot of wind protection being 6 inches taller than stock.

Jimmy,

Assuming you live in North America theres a couple of manufacturers closer to home.

Clearview and Rifle Fairings both sell replacement windshields for your R3.

I'm pretty sure Clearview offer two sizes, 3" and 5" taller than the OEM windshields (but expect to wait several weeks between placing your order and bolting it onto your bike)

Jimmy, I've just re-read your post and realised its under the R3 Touring forum. The windshields I previously mentioned were for the twin headlight R3. It still might be worth a phonecall to Clearview and Rifle.

Good luck getting sorted

Another suggestion is to add a Laminar Lip. I don't love the way it looks, but I am VERY pleased with how it works. I am 5'10" and felt that the stock shield was too low and the optional one would be too high. By adding this extender, I now have no troubles with buffetting, etc.

Note: The photo at the site above makes the shield with extender look very tall. I guess I mounted mine a little lower and in a way that had the sides line up perfectly. I'd say that I added about 1.5" to overall height of my shield. A bit hard to describe and I don't have a photo of my R3T with the product installed. The good news is that you install it the way you want it....I can see over my shield with the extender installed and it dramatically improved my riding experience.

Also, if you do a search on "laminar" on the other (.com) site, there is a post about this product as well as a photo from a member.

I too had a Lame Lip once upon a time. It's now somewhere in the median strip of the interstate. The ambient temperatures were in excess of 100F and the rising pavement heat had to have added another 10 degrees. The traffic was hauling home for the evening and I was getting out and ahead of them when suddenly the lip was gone. It's a miracle it didn't take the top of my head off. They don't make promises like they use to.
