Living Legend
Captain Caeruleus (Mike) on the .com site is organizing this Salvo and asked me to post it here. We seem to have a lot of Captains up and down the Atlantic seaboard that might be interested in this. I've already been in touch with NativeOne (John) who is planning on riding up from Texas. Please post your intentions as soon as you can.

Proposed Southern West Virginia Salvo
For those who went to the Dragon Salvo, I mentioned that I was planning an October Fall Foliage Salvo in Southern West Virginia. I would like to gauge interest in this. The weekend would be October 14-17, 2010. The base for the Salvo will be the Elkhorn Inn in Landgraff, WV. Here is a link to their website:

Dan and Elisse, the owners, are great people and Innkeepers. I have stayed there twice before doing the railfan and dirt bike thing.. The Inn is about 30min west of Bluefield, WV which sits on Route 77. This Inn primarily caters to railfans and Hatfield-McCoy ATV and dirt bike riders. The Inn is across the road and about 50ft from the Norfolk Southern Pocahontas Subdivision which sees about forty trains/day through Landgraff. So those of you that get all "Wee-Wee'd up" over train noise, this may not be the salvo for you... As far as proposed rides, I copied some routes out of the Southern WV Motorcycle touring guide. Here is a link to those pages:

Another route that is not shown here that I propose is Rt52, to Rt 16 through Tazwell, VA and then north back to Bluefield... We would then go through Coalwood, WV - HOME OF THE ROCKETBOYS.. Read the book or get the movie "October Sky"... There is a huge sign in town next to the diner that says "Home of the Rocketboys".. Gotta get a group picture there!!!!!
The rooms are private and semi private. Here are a list of the rooms. They will run around $89-99/night semi-private and around $100-$130/night private. I can't negotiate the exact rate until I get a number of attendees.
2nd floor:
Blue Room: private bath, rail-view, double bed.
Yellow Room: double bed, creek side (quieter). Next to a bath (can have a private bath if the Inn isn't full).
Greenbrier Room - double bed, 2 rail views, opposite a bath
Fan Quilt Room - double bed, opposite a bath
Apples Quilt Room - double bed - right next to a bath
Cats Quilt Room - 2 twins, rail-view, opposite a bath
RL Red Room - two twins, opposite a bath (the room you stayed in with your son).
Wedding Ring Quilt Room - double bed, opposite a bath
There is also the "two tub" bath on this floor.
3rd floor:
Red Room - double bed, 2 rail-views, opposite a bath
Pink Room - two twin beds, rail view, opposite a bath
If needed we can also have these rooms available on the 3rd floor:
Big Blue Room, 4 twins, opposite the bath
Train Quilt Room, two twins, opposite the bath
Plum Room, double bed, down the hall a bit from the bath
If the Inn doesn't suit you, Elkhorn Inn can suggest other lodging in Bluefield or Princeton, etc...
I am also planning a Saturday nite dinner. We have to pick two of the below entrees.. The choices are as follows:
Captain C's Indian "Butter Chicken" or "Keema Matar" & Basmati Rice & Seasonal Vegetable. In this scenario, I will be guest chef with the owner Dan in the kitchen!
OR
-Herb-Stuffed Roast Cornish Game Hen, served with Seasonal Vegetable and Rice or Potatoes
-Chicken Piccata (with a lemon, white wine, and caper sauce), served with Seasonal Vegetable and Rice, Pasta, or Potatoes
-Herb-Poached Salmon with Alfredo-Dill Sauce, served over Pasta with Seasonal Vegetable
-Lemon-Pepper Chicken, served with Seasonal Vegetable and Rice or Potatoes
-Shrimp Scampi, served over Pasta or Rice, and Seasonal Vegetable
-Vietnamese "Claypot" Ginger Chicken, served with Rice and Seasonal Vegetable
-Vietnamese Ginger-Tumeric Marinated Pork Chops, served with Sesame Stir-Fried Squash and Rice
-African Chicken-Peanut Stew, served with assorted Condiments, served with Seasonal Vegetable
-Pasta with Homemade Tomato-Mushroom Sauce (can be Vegetarian) and Meatballs, or -Homemade Pesto (Vegetarian), served with Seasonal Vegetable
-Four-Cheese Eggplant Parmigiana (Vegetarian - for at least 2 people), served with Seasonal Vegetable
(Dinners are $40/per person, with an 18% gratuity added for groups over 6).
For those interested, please post back on this thread and state what room and dinner you would like. The two most chosen dinners is what we will have. In the case of a tie, I will make the decision..
