Signal Minder

Guys,

I recently purchased a Signal Minder for my Rocket. I did figure out a way to alter the turn signal switch so that it would not latch in position and require you to manually reset (center) it. The procedure is simple, and it does not permanently alter (break) any part of the works. If anyone is truly interested in this alteration, I'll put an instructions and picture set together and post.

The beauty of this is that you move the switch to the left or right momentarily, and you're done. The switch will not latch and therefore returns to center. The signals will blink for the amount of time you set the SM "dip switch" for, and will keep blinking while you have the brakes activated.

I love the Signal Minder, and have installed it on all of my bikes.

Yes please, I still cant get into the habit of cancelling before I signal, so your instructions would be most apreciated.

pls. pass along the info. the signalminder comes with some springs that allegedly re-center the switch, but, I recall reading that they really didn't work in the r3 switch housing. if you do not need to re-center, can you still cancel the signal manually? also, does the 4-way flash function work for you? my running lights and self cancel functions work but not the flash.

I'll get some picture up here soon, to show how this is mod done. Here's a shot at an explanation:
Warning, this is the Readers Digest version! This is for reference only.

Remove the two black screws that hold the front portion of the left grip housing; to expose the signal switch mechanism
Cut the small wire tie
Remove four screws that will allow the switch to be removed. (one screw on small bracket, two short screws one long screw)

Pull the signal switch out (careful, There's a spring under the horn button, and the button too will be free)
Looking at the switch from the top, you'll see a few white PAWLS or latching areas (springy)
These latches have up and down movement and are springy by design (they lath the switch into position)

I cut a piece of (the plastic packing material that the Signal Minder came in, or some other still thin material) to aprox 1 inch long and 1/4 wide

I slid that thin piece I just cut, into a slot that exists on the switch while pressing the two latches down and sliding the plastic over the top of the latches
Now this piece of plastic is keeping the two latches depress and basically disabled.(can no longer latch)
Lub the top of the plastic you just install (makes the switch slide easy on top of the modification)

Put things back together and you will have the momentary operation and all other functions of the signal minder

A picture is worth a thousand words, but I have an old Casio digital camera piece of junk that isn't working with my new computer.

Basically, you are making a piece that will disable the latches and fit tightly in the space that’s available. The piece of plastic should go in all the way in and have a tail sticking out the side you inserted it into. Bend the tail and the run a piece of 1/4 wide electrical tape around the switch to keep the (shunt or the piece of plastic you made) in position.

This mod has been working fine on my bike for weeks. I did however have a problem with the first piece I made. It was too short, and it moved and failed to do it's job after several weeks. I redesigned it so that it can not move and so that it is tight in it position. Lub it so it's slippers on top. I will get some pic's.

This isn't to hard to do, but I think if you are fat fingered, you could break parts or force thing too much causing pain.
