Well, I lost my left side panel on my 2009 Rocket III Touring. Apparently, when I reinstalled it, I pushed the top grommet in and the panel fell off while riding. I'm looking for a replacement but the one's I'm finding are US $240.00+ OUCH! Can that REALLY be the price for a piece of plastic? (I'm in the WRONG business).
Anyway, anyone know where I can find a less expensive replacement of possibly a chrome upgrade?
You could check Bike Bandit, and there's a guy who often parts Rockets out on Ebay. But yup, they are easily lost and aren't cheap. I lost one the same way as you.
I'd suggest getting a handful of the rubber grommets and replacing them every couple of years. They tend to get a bit brittle and lose their hold.
Now I am worried that I will lose mine too.
I am going to have a good look at and see if theres a way to add a safety wire or zip tie to make sure it does not get lost.
No way I want to pay $240
Well, I was wondering if anyone else has had this happen. It's a little strange that it was my left side as well. I had replaced a missing rubber on the bottom about two months ago. The one that is open on the bottom sits on a short stud. It never felt right since. But I never thought it would fly off without me knowing it either. I've looked now for over a month and can't find a use one so, I'm getting ready to bite the bullet and order a new one. I must have found a dozen or more for the standard Rocket III. Of course they're made of steel and bolt on. Why would mother Triumph change this tried and true setup. Just like why did they have to change the way the seat is removed? I could get to my battery in less than ten seconds on my old Classic. Now it take ten minutes.
I read where some of you had lost side covers so I replaced mine with some cheap valve cover grommets from Oreilly's and glued them in. Kinda hard to pop them into place which is exactly what I wanted. Mine arent going anywhere. Hope you don't have too much trouble hunting down a new one.
Try this web site. You can get them there and it looks like they are even painted the correct color. They are expensive but I don't know what else you can do in less you go to the dealer.
Silly me, I thought all R3's were made in the Bat Cave, and the side covers were supposed to deploy at 126mph.
I lost both of mine, so I know the pain of replacement cost, $500 for two crappy side covers, I think not. Better to spend that money on rear tires
I have searched long and hard for these parts at a reasonable price, Pinwall is a good lead, but I think they have someone on the inside hoarding the best parts.
