Has anyone installed an OBD shift light to their R3? The factory shift indicator is just not visible enough in a competition situation and I was hoping one of these such as the Holley Standalone CAN/OBD shift light would be a good option.

itks a good option, that said…
by the time you see the shift light it’s already to late , especially with a rpm of 6.5k redline. I upped mine to 7.1 but the first 2 gears happen so fast it’s very difficult to change consistent when pinning the throttle.

will a shift light help? sure, to some extent. but is it worth the cost…
I would rather flash the map to unlock the throttle and top end limiter whilst upping the rpm to past 7k…
fit a QS.
drop the rear tire pressure to increase grip and reduce TC effect for those competitive occasions.

Agreed. I have an unrestricted tune on the bike and redline set at 7.2. I have the factory shift assist as well. I may research a true quick shifter actuated by the shift light i/o. All in the pursuit of having more fun than humanly possible.

not possible, CAN bus is encrypted/locked
People cant even make extra brake light work after wiring it with OEM rear brake light.

Installed Holley Sniper OBD shift light today. So far no issues, plug and play. Programmed as instructed, displays rpm, programmable shift points in each gear. Didn't get a chance to test it fully yet. I will report further if anything of interest.

interesting, if that company sells brake light, I am sold.

Any update on how well this works? Loving this bike, but it's the lowest redline bike I've ever owned and there is no power drop off before redline so I pretty much hit the limiter on every WOT accel.

The only issue I have discovered is in regards to the advertised ability to program a shift point individually for each gear. So far it seems to default to whatever shift point is programmed for sixth gear for all. May still be operator error in set up. Once I get the bike repaired from last weekend’s encounter with a young driver on a cell phone I’ll try to program it again.
