The ring is hard to find an even harder to pull, you can barely get your finger on it let alone through it,it should be at the front left of the pillion section, when you get the seat off put a tag on the ring,i used the rubber tag of one of the zips on my overalls it makes seat removal a doddle
I like your thinkin Pikey,
but I just got my fender and tail light the way I want it.
besides, if I complained, they'd want me to put all that plastic air box crap back on it,
and thats something I just couldn't do..
Maybe they'd just give me a free ring??
Naw, that seems to be a pain from what I've read about it so far.
Think I'll just keep what I've got an be happy.
Free bike sounds good though.
I think obama should give us all one.

Thanks for that pic Mitch, all is understood now.
My mate and I had a go today but our finger are too fat. Now I know exactly where the ring is,I can make a hook
My technique is to stand on her left side and lean over the bike, twisting the key lock release on right side while simultaneously pulling on the ring under the left rear of the seat. Sometimes it helps to lay on the seat while doing "the twister" to release some of the pressure that may be making the unlatching a bit sticky. Make sure things are properly lube to assure easier operation in the future. 8)
It come off quite easy once I found the ring.
I have a wire hook in the panniers until I can find something suitable to tie onto the ring.
I lubricated the catches with graphite for good measure.
The reason I wanted it off was to check the battery terminals(excellant condition),check the contents of the tool kit(complete) and reinstall the black side panels as the 1st step in my dechroming program. 8)
I have the Triumph panniers as well and don't have ANY problems accessing the ring. You must have REALLY big fingers. You must be real popular with the ladies. 8)
