what 's the point of all this can"t take the views, can't take pictures , after a while it all looks the same you blink once ok second time you fall asleep for a few seconds and end up on the pavement.
sorry but I really do not see the point

Valid question. Why does a marathon runner do what he does? Why does a Nascar driver go around the same track 200+ times in one sitting? etc.

LD riding isn't about flower sniff'n all the time. Sometimes it is structured as a personal challenge. Do I have the right stuff to complete this challenge?

Yes, 24 hrs but in reality you can easily complete it in 18 hrs. I've done it once in just under 16 hrs but conditions were perfect.
 
I hear the challenge, but the marathon has a winner the Nascar race as well , fame , recognition etc. the bike LD is just for oneself but I guess a challenge is a challenge and we are all different even though we all ride the meanest bike
 
I do it because it is fun...in a twisted sort of way. It also gives me a little internal chuckle every time I hear some dude in brand new leather head to toe squaking about what a badass rider he is on his sparklingly clean stteet glide or whatever. I am always polite and invariably invite them to go for a little ride...you know...1000 miles or so

Probably the ultra...its the only one I own that I can sleep on. Pull over at a rest stop, pull the back rest, tour pack becomes a pillow and the lower fairing a foot rest. Beats renting a hotel room or sleeping on the ground for a few hours rest. Done it more times than I can count

That's 62.5 mph, sounds doable.
I think I going to need a reserve tank.
The MC fueling process is slow and the Rocket is a thirsty bike.
I estimate six fast gas stops @ 10 minutes each to add 1 hour.
Besides, I always wana pee when I get close to a gas station.

Ok this one sounds doable but the Around Texas Insanity Thing's that pace 3 days in a row.
At one time I was fit for that. We open water skied frequently and rode the MC every day.
Those were the 40 something years.
 
Did a SS1000 IBA #63282, last April for fallen Officer Jamie Padron scholarship out of San Angelo, TX. They are doing it again this year on April 1st. Wanting to get at least 30 bikes this year! The good thing is this is sponsored by local Blue Knights Chapter LE/MC, so witnesses are not a problem!

My group made it in 18 Hours and we had a trike breakdown on I10 between Fort Stockton and Balmorhea! When we left SA @ 0800 it was 37F. We took the route going counterclockwise, this put us in Deer country at the wrong time of night!!! This included a extended stop in Brady @ 0020 for some coffee and a snack and to warm up.

Quickest time was 16 hours. But, they were averaging over a Ton with 9 fuel stops.

I plan on doing again this year and maybe trying to do a combo with a SS1500? I will also try to get my 3 boys and my two brothers to go! My brothers worked with Jamie.

All this sounds fun and interesting. Perhaps I will get to meet you guys. My bike seems not to be fitted for this kind'a challenge but we'll see. Perhaps the safety of a seasoned group my compensate for that.

I used my R3R with the Triumph Gel seat and windshield, Chase Harper (made in USA) throw over saddle bags and a tank bag. Lotsa water, Clif bars, several NSAIDS and a 1/2 gallon of gas.
Throttle lock off Amazon for $32.

Wife was worried as she thinks I am to old to be doing "crazy stuff like this".

Texas what a GREAT Country it is!
