This may be a silly basic question but do you have to read a program each time you want to put a new map in. Will it flash over the old one.

It'll overwrite the existing map when you reflash.
If you already have a copy of your existing map saved then go ahead and do that, otherwise I would read and save so you have the existing map in case something goes wrong with the new one.
