Went riding around town in my brain-bucket today (as opposed to the full-face Shoei) and noticed that there is a persistent audible rattle once I hit 3,000 RPM or so. Happens regardless of the gear and doesn't appear to be anything I can reach from the riding position. Parked, the engine is too loud to hear the rattle while looking around the engine, can only make it our while riding. Any idea what I should be looking at here?

That one's pretty wide open? Not gear dependent, what about if you pull the clutch in? Rattle from in front of rider or behind? When you were parked was it enclosed space or out in open? You only hear it while moving? Any accessories attached (saddlebags, shield, etc). I'd probably start by looking for a loose bolt somewhere? There is the dreaded paint can rattle on our years from the cam guides. Knock on wood, I've never heard it, but imagine it would be audible in parked condition as well. The fact you can only hear it over road noise while moving leads me more toward a loose bolt/washer rattle?

I had the same problem awhile back. Mine turned out to be the plastic / chrome cover on the speedometer. I used some adhesive backed sound deadening material on the inside.

The Chrome covers on my headers were loose on mine, which caused a rattle,

Can you narrow it down a little?
Front or back of the bike? Engine or gear box?

Sounds like it's coming from somewhere in the area of the fork. I'll check the header covers.

Always wear hearing protection when wearing a shower cap.
Protects ears and eliminates noises.

I noticed a rattle on my 05 yesterday, stopped at a gas station to investigate it and found that the passenger seat bolts had backed off.
