I took it (rode it) to another shop today in Winchester that works on Triumphs, used to have a Triumph franchise. First guess was maybe something wrong with the final drive, put it up on the rack and drained it, that looked normal. Finally started it, put it in gear (with the rear wheel up obviously) and sure enough, they heard the noise. Sounds like something loose rattling around in the transmission, broken tooth maybe? Anyway, I left it there, one of their more experienced techs is going to look at it Tuesday and see what's what. Doesn't sound good no matter what the answer is. Apparently you have to remove the engine and transmission completely to dig around inside the transmission. Glad I got to go to Maggie Valley in May to RAA 6. My motorcycling summer hasn't turned out quite as I planned.
