Rant...**** Prius driver

I don't think you can get a Prius with cruse control. My son bought one because he was driving 60 miles one way to work. I got to drive it down to S. Ga. that was 10 miles from Alb.

I drove that thing like I had stole it. You had to keep it wound up 75 to 80+ mph. got 48 mpg's. If you got caught going up a hill and had to slow down to 55 or so it took for ever to get it up to speed again. My right leg was sore from having to from WOT to completely off the gas. That is how you had to drive that thing.

I bet I saw 30+ Priuses and every dang one of them drove like ya'll are talking about. It was like they had no clue that the speed limit was 70 and they were driving 55 to 60 mph. I always said that the people that drove them were Queers or tree huggers.

I am glad he had tinted windows and no one I knew saw me in that thing

We've owned them for years. We generally drive them on the interstate at speeds of 10 over, just like everyone else.

I've never been stuck behind one. I've never seen anyone driving one like you describe.

Maybe there's something in the water where you folks who are whining about the Prii live.

I teach courses on alternative fuels and power trains. I bought my first Prius in 2011 when I was able to borrow a Prius, a Leaf, and a Volt from local dealers to show the class. Instead of giving the Prius back, I asked if I could drive it on a 200 mile trip. They said sure. I did, and instead of giving it back, I wrote them a check for it. I've owned two more since then.

My other four wheel vehicle is a Tundra. I drive it at 10 over too. Just like everyone else.

We've got a slow poke law that will go on the books July 1 here, so that may help with the left lane stragglers.

As for A***oles, they come in all size vehicles, and are not limited to "tree hugging" varieties.

Check out the Prius next time you're looking for a new car. There's nothing wrong with getting 50+ mpg.

A proper automobile has an internal combustion engine and rear wheel drive. In some cases, 4 wheel drive is acceptable.

Anything powered completely, or in part, by electricity is an appliance. Sorry Tesla.

Have you ever checked the tyres on a Prius? I believe that they are rated for a maximum of 70mph.

Top Gear did a test and got better mileage from a V8 BMW than the Prius - 19mpg Vs 17mpg. Drop that by 20% for US gallons.

I never met a dog that I didn't like and I never met a Prius that I did.

I am not the sharpest marble in the bag......The only place I know that 50 and 40 cross is in Raleigh. If that is where you live bless you.
I live with in 30 miles of 3 university's.....NC State, Duke and UNC.

NC State.....not to bad. Duke and UNC is where all the tree huggers and communist get their education. They are in a world of their own just like when they are driving a Prius.

It is not the car that is the problem any red neck can drive the crap out of a Prius, I proved that when I went to Ga. and back twice. My son bought a back hoe from there.

Oh.......I did not mean to step on anyone's pecker with my previous comment about the tree huggers and the other group.

We too owned a Prius (two of them actually - Gen1 and then Gen2) and put 100,000 miles on the second one.

It is interesting to me how my driving is affected by of what I am in control, be it Prius (fun and challenging to find the sweet spots of energy use), BMW E-30 M-3 (I challenge you to that off ramp), my Honda CTX700D commuter, or the Rocket (Let's go !).

We sold the Prius a while back, and moved to a dual car strategy -- Nissan Leaf for three years for around town, and VW Jetta TDI for distance. The lease ran out on the LEAF (we had that for three years) and we traded the Jetta for a Golf TDI (before the scandal broke, of course), and whatever I'm driving these days (mind you, we're in one of the worst traffic areas in the country) I just constantly find myself irritated at long gaps in front of drivers, knowing they are dividing attention with their cell phone, and worst, keeping from getting through the light before it changes.

..and we traded the Jetta for a Golf TDI (before the scandal broke, of course)

Why 'of course'? I'd think there would be much better deals on TDI's now. If you like the VW, I'd trade for a new one. As is being reported, now Mercedes is being accused of the same thing. If you're going to drive a boring vehicle you might as well get a good deal on one.

I traded a 67 GTO for a Dodge Dart when I married my first wife. The trade and the wife were two of my worst mistakes. I haven't driven a boring car since. You can buy a 700+ horsepower Challenger for what you would have paid for a well equipped Buick 30 years ago (equivalent dollars, of course). Mustang GTs make as much power as my 2001 Viper. There have never been better cars available for less money. Enjoy it while it lasts, those tree huggers will ultimately prevail.

Got stuck on a 2 lane highway today behind a Prius. He caused quite a backlog of traffic stuck behind him.

Never understood why they can't move over when they see the queue forming behind them.

Along with trucks, and busses, should ban Priuses from the left lane. Keep them trapped in the slow lane where they belong.
