Got my bike back today! Talked to the mechanic and it had a broken clutch release shaft? Not sure of the terminology....but I've seen pics of this part on the forum. I've got a new front cover, bearings and shaft. Just in time for snow!!
Sounds like you got off easy. It's obvious that clutch freeplay is of paramount importance....and I'd hope mine was that simple but I suspect it's not, especially now, with the 'Paint Can Rattle'.
It's difficult not to tear it down myself and have a peek but at this point it's probabl;y better to let a Triumph Techinican have his way with it.
Mine almost sounds like a dry hydraulic lifter on a 350 Chevy.
Interestingly, no matter what brand or model you buy, it seems as though there is always a problem. Even my KLR has problems. It turns into a 2 stroke over 5500 rpm and consumes oil at an alarming rate...Beemers break Paralever castings and Goldwings break frame members...and Harley's just break.
Back in the 'good old days' I don't remember so many problems with my bikes, but then, just getting them started and down the road was iffy.
