R3 Owner feedback please


Yes, I agree. We can be a pretty powerful lobby group. And the R3 is unique enough, spectacular enough, and exciting and pleasurable enough to stick with it. I have just 2.5K on my Roadster. Some little things. Some little annoyances, but **** I am turned on every time I ride it. No other bike ever did that. Am I wrong?

Read enough of these posts and you'll see the common thread. We love our rides.
 
I was standing with the dealer when he was talking to Triumph USA and he specifically asked if they would take care of this and THEY said no.

Still love my Rocket, hate the folks that made it and I've been a Triumph man since the mid 70's. Reckon I should have done more research on the modern incarnation of Triumph.

Right now, Triumph wouldn't make a pimple on a piss poor motorcycle companies ass for me. Still love my Rocket.

The first year and a half of my warranty I did not break 1500 miles because I was working on the road and the bike was home. Now that I am at 20,000 and 2 years past the warranty, I am screwed for a design flaw.
 
I had the bearing problems which they took care of my biggest problem my dealer has only one certified mechanic for triumph he is also the Ducati mechanic. Guess who's hard to get to but there is a HD shop right up the road from me the lot is full of bikes to be repaired the new Harleys cranks seem to come apart , the charging system is a joke it melts down regularly shop keeps them in stock. My first bike was 1973 HD dresser complete with 8 track the old iron heads you learned how to mechanic the tools in the saddlebag.

R3 owner feedback

I just bought a new r3 roadster 2 weeks ago. Took it in for first service (500 miles) and the brake light was sticking on. Dealer said they couldn't trace problem and told me that they would have to order a wiring harness from the UK. That was a week ago and I,m still waiting. I just sold a Honda st1300 -- great bike but kinda plain jane. I was looking for something more exciting (and it is that). The honda was uber reliable and in 5 years, not a single problem, but it garnered no attention. The Triumph however, draws crowds and lots of comments on its looks, performance, etc. I suppose the jury is still out on my r3 roadster, I loved it for the first 500 miles and can't wait to get it back.
 

Had the same brake light sticking on problem on my '07. It's not the harness, it's the hydraulic pressure switch that is bad. The switch is tucked up near the rear wheel at the end of the rear brake line. You have to remove the heat shield and drain the brake fluid to replace. It's tight in there unless you have a lift. I did mine on the ground and it was just a bit more difficult.

I bought the switch from Bikebandit (seem to remember it was around $30) and put it on myself, since the bike was long out of the 2 year warranty. You'll need to bleed the rear brakes after re-assembly and it takes a bit of effort to get all the air out due to the location of the switch. I use speedbleeders, but a mityvac or a large syringe with surgical tubing will do the job just fine.



Your dealer is an idiot...run away.
 
I hope he rides both and chooses what he really wants to ride. I just got back on my T-bird, rode it down to my Triumph dealer and had the BC Hogslayers put on...man, what a difference. The OEM exhaust didn't sound bad but this new one...let's just say I wish the Rocket had this kind of sound.
