Hi all,
Thinking about buying a R3 GT 2020+
Having never owned a Triumph before & only Japanese. What are these bikes like to work on as I've always done my own spanner work & refuse to go to dealers. Sorry but most dealers I've dealt with happy to charge a fortune for crap workmanship.
Thanks

Not bad, i do my own work too and similar background. Up to 10k miles basically oil changes, you need a computer and obd dongle to reset service intervals, not expensive. After 10k change spark plugs and air filter, takes some effort but nothing that different from am sportbike.
Mind the weight, you want to have a good lift

Triumph is a lot like the Japanese bikes, they use metric system everything. For diagnostics you'll need to look into what pica mentioned above. If you're going to be tire changes etc, you'll need a stout lift. I use a pneumatic table lift for working on my bikes and also have an ABBA stand and a scissor lift for getting wheels off the table or ground.

It's all completely doable, you need some specific items for certain things (TuneECU & OBDLink MX+, or a dedicated Triumph Scanner) There is always plenty of genuine help available here & the huge workshop manual is also avail here free too.
If you're used to doing your own spannering, you'll have no problem, learning, yup sure, but no issues.

Very easy to work, as there are no plastic parts fairing etc, so easy access for everything,
Parts/consumables are also cheaper compare to BMWs/Ducatis etc.

I only bought center jack stand and thats enough for me

My '20 3R had never been to a dealer except for the rear master cylinder recall. Tires, oil changes, 10 and 20K services have all been done in my basement. The 20K service is more complicated, especially if you need to swap shims, but if you're comfortable around other bikes it shouldn't be an issue for you. I have videos on the 10 and 20K services, if you're interested. Get it- you'll love it!
