Pre 2010 rockets

I paid 10k usd for a 2014 at 5k mikes with TORS on it. I think that is a bit high for that 07. Offer him 6000 usd and leave it there for a few days. It’s winter so let him think about how bad he wants to sell.

Or find a newer bike as has been suggested.

It's an 05, and I think the potential buyer lives in Eire? Probably a different price structure there on machines and availability?

Very possible. It’s his money and of the OP wants it then I say go for it but he asked so I just told of my experience and suggested a course of business action. Hope he finds a nice bike.

I paid $8000 US for my 2005 in 2010, with 2,700 miles, but but I've never had a single issue, except that the trip odometer doesn't work. Currently 30,000 miles on the bike, and I hang my head in shame at the lack of miles over 11 years.

Don't feel bad. I've got just over 25,000 on an 07, but I bought it when I was in the army and they kept sending me places, hence the low mileage.

I understand. Two one-year AFG tours in 4 years plus countless TDY's has me doing great miles... then nothing for some time. Plus I have two bikes and classic car looking for attention. Fiona wins most of the time... That all ends soon though...

So your advice is I shouldn't buy the 2005 bike and look for a newer model?
I was referring to a safe year model that did not need the updated transmission parts. It actually is in the later half of the 08 models. Also Im talk a Real Rockets the beautifully ugly ones with two bug eye headlights. Supposedly all R3T's have the updated. All silver engines were before the updates so ya might or might not have problems. I am not stating they are bad just that there was a higher mechanical failure rate of silver engines. Personally I look for a 09 model to be sure. And I also agree with the guys above on the price. Unless where your at has legalized marijuana in which I'd say don't smoke his it has to be some good chit man

Kaplan Cycles in New England (I think) had a nice 2011 R3 touring, black, circa 7,000 miles with a Carpenter conversion (not sure which one) and a harley type front fairing with a killer sound system. Think they where asking around $11,000. Don't know if it sold. I thought about it, but can't really justify spending that plus transport fees (around $800). Very nice bike though.

Hi Dave, if you like the bike and you feel it is worth the money then buy it. I believe a few early ones had a tolerance issue with the output shaft bearing which finding the root cause took a few months, but the numbers were very minor. If they reached 18k then they were going to be fine. Triumph stood by all of them irrelevant of mileage and numbers of owners (pretty good I thought) and there won't be any of them left now.
I have an 05. Have done exhaust mod, cat delete, all the intake plenums and bull**** discarded for some K&N pods and a remap, a big difference and I give it hell. Only done 36k because I also have several classic bikes I ride. I have NEVER had a mechanical or electrical issue of any description, these are GREAT bikes. Ride carefully and get used to it, the torque is huge.
