Oil Dip Stick Cross Hatch Level...How Much To Add If Needed?

I have not needed to add oil to my bike yet but when I do how do I know how much to add?
How much oil does the cross hatch section on the dipstick correlate to?
Since we have a dry sump and this odd oil check procedure someone must have this figured out. Let's say on day I check it and the level is 1/4 of the way up the cross hatch, how much would I have to add to bring it to half way into the middle without having to repeat the entire procedure and possibly now getting wrong levels?

The last time I got shorted by the stealership it wasn't even showing on the dipstick after the check oil procedure. One US quart brought it up to the bottom un-crosshatched part of the stick, maybe 1/8" showing. At that point, I added another whole US quart and it came up into the upper part of the crosshatch portion, after the idle/wait procedure. So seeing that, I'd only add half a quart if it were low and recheck. Unless it was very low on the crosshatch portion a whole quart would probably be too much.

Now, I'm wondering what oil they put in it. Probably that cheap bulk drum of semi-syn. I wouldn't trust one any more than I could throw one. hurl
 
So far I'm happy with my dealer, I checked my oil level after my 600mi service and this morning again after they put the clutch back in and no problem there. Too bad you are having trouble with yours.
