Hi everyone.

My name is Ivo, i an 27 years old, and i want to became an owner of Triumph 3 rocket roadster motorcycle.

So far, so good.

I've never had a motorcycle before, and i definitely know, that this one will be a little bit bigger and powerful for a new guy, but its my dream one, so.....

Ok, so first of all, i have read somewhere, that there is an common problem with the gearbox in 2004 - 2008 generation - it starts pop up the gears from itself.

The problem should be solved in the next gen - after 2008, but it is true?

Can you summarize all the information that I've need to have when i go to buy some Rocket 3 Roadster - the condition of clutch, tires, pegs, etc, etc. What should me the normal mileage of a bike like this?

Second question - the oil should meet the requirements from manufacturer - 10W40 or 15W50 and the required oil should be produced by Castrol.

Here in BG every oil, different from Motul and Bardahl is fake and could damage your vehicle, so is it possible to use Motul / Bardahl instead of Castrol or it will be a problem?

Third question - about the tyres - a friend of mine, told me that the best tire is Metzeler Marathon - soft enough but with short life cycle because of the softness.

Can you recommend me a tires, good enough for everyday ride - 100 kilometers per day.

Also - what should be the life cycle of a tire in terms of everyday mixed ride - early at the morning - 15 km urban and 40 km highway - 2 , 3 seasons?

Fourth question - about the glow plugs - iridium or ordinary? Is it true that the Rocket is twin-spark?

Fifth question - about the equipment - What do you think about Shoei and is there anything better that that for helmet gear?

About the shoes - i've found an american company - Milwaukee Motorcycle Clothing Company for the foot wear - any opinions?

About the jacket - Rev'It, Dainese? I like both brands, but which one will be better for a ride like this one? Any other options?

Thank you all for your time and all of your answers.

Will appreciate them a lot.

Cheers

Welcome to the forum
Big bike for a first up ride...…… Get the newest you can one with ABS if possible
Most of the guys here have got rid of the Metzelers…..Bridgestone or Avon on the rear with a few choices for the front
Tyre seem to last about 8k, depending on riding style and brand
Twin spark yes
Shoei is about the best you can get (my opinion)
Sure others will be along with their take on things shortly

Hi Ivo and a warm welcome to the forum from one of the British contingent. An Rocket 111 as your first bike? That is a brave move and you will have a lot to learn. Be careful and take as much advice as possible on riding a motorcycle. Are you able to complete instructed courses in Bulgaria? Well worth considering if they are available. Good luck in your quest to ride the best bike on the market!

2008 Vin higher than 337294 and on have the updated transmission.
As far as miles, I have a 2006 with 137,000 miles that is still running great.
Motul is one of the best oils you can use. I'm sure somebody using it will recommend which one they use.

Treat her with respect, even stock the Rocket is a beast.

Hey from Ohio! I started with a Bonneville for a few years, then the Rocket. It’s a big, big motorcycle, but the more you ride one, the more you love it.

Rolls

Hello Ivo and welcome from Virginia. As for your safety gear, any of the jackets are good, get what fits you and is comfortable for your area. A full face helmet is always a safer bet than a half helmet but make sure it too is the correct size. Any boot that covers your ankle is the way to go.
Good luck

Welcome from arizona
Try to get some one to give u a ride on a rocket.
The rocket is a hand full even when u can ride.
Lean forward when u are learning.
Allways straighten it up when stopping.
If u stop in a corner without straighting it up over u go.
Do not be afraid to lean it over in the corners it is better than driving into the oncomming traffic.
Hope u have a good place to learn.

My God, guys, you are awesome.

Here in Bulgaria, especially in Sofia, we have a great driving schools and one of the best courses about how to ride a motorcycle.

20 astronomical hours in practice and 10 more in the theory of a motorcycle. After that there is an internal theoretical and practical examination, and after that external with the local police.

IN these 20 hours of practice you have urban, highway and different types of tasks in test-track.

There is also a task - how to stop in emergency situation, how to take a person for a ride with you, etc, etc.

So basically the courses here in BG are great.

About the Rocket - yep, definitely will be one hell of a ride, but it looks great and for a massive guys like me (199 cm tall, 120 kilos) will be great ride.

Some technical questions:

1. What should be the fuel consumption of Rocket 3 roadster in terms of normal mixed ride - urban/highway/urban

2. What more do i need to know about the bike, before go to buy a Rocket - is there any peculiarities to pay attention to?

3. Is there anything about the cluch, that ive need to know?

im quite sure, that will be more and more questions, but for now these are enough.

Thank you all for advises,

Hope you have a great day

Sincerely yours

Ivo
