newbee rocketeer . . already need help!

I went from a Busa to the Rocket . If your expecting sharp handling forget it !
Unlike the Busa , r3 handling needs to be learned somewhat . However , once mastered the Rocket enters a league of its own and is surprisingly nimble enough to keep up with a lot of sportsbikes ! In standard guise with decent tyres you should be able to scrape the pegs with ease in corners , if not the failing can only really be tyre pressures , tyres themselves , wheel bearings or headstock , all easy fixes and if not ? The rider wants to have a word with himself !
 
John, Been pondering about this and beside the TPS which might be giving you grief. I also have been working with another SC guy who is having the same problem at lower engine speeds just off idle. Anyway beside what I sent you in your message from the other site. How are you balancing the throttle bodies with no map sensor. I went cheap old school on mine but it worked. When you see the part in the book on balancing them and how it can not be done with vacuum ignore them



Of course you can get a bit better then this one but I was experimenting and found it worked a bunch better then not being able to balance them at all without a map sensor.

Went into ownership with an open mind Nat, certainly wasn't expecting "sharp", but neither was I expecting it to best reluctant to corner reasonably and stay on line, I've built and ridden rigid chops that would out corner my Rocket! Not saying there a bad handling bike as you guys all seem to be fairly happy for what it is, just I have not ridden another so have nothing to compare it with.
As I said in a previous post this was meant to be a bit of cheap fun not throwing money at aftermarket suspension in the hope it will improve, maybe I should have a word with myself!
 
The " having a word " comment was meant in the best possible way with no intention of offence ! As I stated a bog standard R3 will outhandle other big cruisers hands down ! What tyres do you have on the bike ? As the wrong ones will make it handle like a lemon !
Whichever way you look at it , any motorcycle , especially a British made one with 2300 cc and a 240 rear section tyre , can never really be cheap fun ! The more fun I have on mine , the more it costs but to be honest , absolutely worth it !
Don't give up on the beastie yet coz I promise once you have the measure of her , no other bike compares . I am in Devon not too far from you , I would rather take the trip to meet up with you than feel your disillusionment !
 



Here I'm a Bristolian, we aren't easily offended lol Has Avon Cobras, probably half worn, 42 in the back and 34 psi up front. Not giving up on the beastie just yet but have too many other things going on at the moment just don't have the time or spare cash to be throwing at it this summer.

You may well be right, I threw my Roadking down the road in France last year and may well have lost some confidence? But the Rocket sure isn't rekindling it lol, looked at the footpegs tonight and they've never scratched the tarmac in anger so the previous owners weren't throwing her around either.
 
Avon Cobra is mine and many others here tyre of choice for the front ! I run 42 psi both front and rear , any less and the front feels wallowy . If the previous owner ran the front pressure low there is a possibility the tyre has cupped which makes the handling awful !
 
Don't give up on her Rocket man as somethings not right, She should swoop through the corners with ease. I've never found a lack of cornering ability. Tight right handers at a junction or small mini roundabouts are a pain IMO but that's all.
 
I run 40 in my Front Avon but might not be aggressive as you are in the curves. Still seems fine above 160 in Illinois sweepers
 
the stock suspension is marginal and can be improved. I found with a good set of rears and my front with modified Ducati Monster internals with adjustable compression and adjustable high speed dampening improved my ride tremendously.
