Folks,
I just purchased my first Triumph on Ebay. Haven't even picked it up yet. Before this, I've had Honda, Suzuki, and Yamaha. I'm exited about the 05 Rocket that I just got, but I have read some forums about some not so lucky riders. This bike has only had one owner and only 5000 miles on it, with no time in the shop. Are there some things that I could get done right away to prevent some hardship down the road? Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Brian

Read, read, and read some more. This site is full of good information, and good people. No such thing as a stupid question here. And even though the mileage is low on your new bike, it's still almost 8 years old. Triumph made a few changes through the years on the Rocket.

I think the upgrade kit to the Transmission that Triumph offers is something you may want to consider, others will be chiming in soon...

you will want to get an Eastern Beaver headlight relay kit (or make your own) if it has not been done.

Welcome from Downunder. There were a few issues with some of the earlier models, the transmission being perhaps the main one to watch. There are, however, plenty of people with '04 and '05 models with very high mileage and no problems at all. If it was me, rather than worrying about the sky falling my head, I'd just get on the thing and ride. The headlight relay mod is definitely worth doing as a priority though.

05

My '05 had the rattle can issue. Now that it is fixed the engine runs very quiet. Tors exhaust sounds good. Just turned 9k miles. No noticeable transmission issues so far.

Is the rattle can issue due to the timing chain or timing chain guides?
