New Lithium battery

Same here. Noticed when I left for work it seemed a little slow to turn over, but it was a little cold, so no big deal. However, time to go home and no electric juice in a 4 month old larger capacity battery I bought not long ago. Also, noticed engine light on the gauge had appeared. I carry a spare backup, but it too was dead. So I had to go back to the office and sit for an hour while the spare charged up. Made it home,charged up the battery,hit the starter switch and back to normal. Also, the engine light soon disappeared.
 

I hope this one works for you. I'm on my second R3 (current 2011, previous 2005), with the first one I had similar problems at cold temperatures, but not with the second. I believe that the problem with the first was that the oil was draining, at rest, from the oil tank to the bottom of the engine due to a bad check valve and therefore too much resistance for the starter at startup. Turning the engine at cold temperatures (anything below 30F) was very sluggish and if it did not start on first attempt the battery was drained. I kind off solved the problem by improvising a block heater from a gutter defroster with a thermostat that I placed under the bike at home. Never bothered to check if the check valve was the true culprit, though. Got the 2011 instead...
 
no slight to those that have invested in expensive batteries but, if you install a relay between the starter and the battery, the starter will receive more voltage ,virtually eliminating any starter woes.spent a lot of money trying to cure the starting problem with these bikes . after the relay install ,my walmart battery has lasted 7 years with no starting issues.oh, and a larger ground helped.
 
can you provide a schematic of your install , I am interested in a similar situation for obvious reason
