Thanks @ozrider and @Mittzy I live in a small country town so we are use to that, but the heat is another thing we will have to get use to, but we are looking forward to the move. Looking forward to meeting you all up there. Cheers Pete
Yes mate I will be moving up for a couple of months, we get there on the 25th of Jan and hopefully my wife will find work up there before march we will all be up there, if not I will be back and forth until Trish finds a job.
Cheers Pete
Just to add a bit more. Gatton and Laidley are all part of the Lockyer Valley Regional Council, which covers where I live in the Withcott area. Our little town has been voted the friendliest place in Qld, to give you some idea of what its like. As @kenne mentioned the 2011 floods were a tough time up here, one in 500 year event most of Qld was affected. One thing for sure these little Lockyer communities pulled together in true blue fashion everyone helped where they could. Good example of what most people are like around here. From a Rocket point of view, fantastic. Couple of minutes from my place and I am on the open road. You can head to Esk a big gathing place for bikes or Heifer Creek Road, Hampton Road, and a thousand great little backroads. Great Rocket territory.
Their are some fishing clubs around. You have either the 2 plus hours to the coast for salt water and plenty of Dams. Toowoomba area has Cooby, Cressbrook for fishing. Lakes & dams
Also got Somerset and a number of other smaller dams creeks ect, all within an hour of Gatton.

Only negative would be Laidley town area floods, don't rent or buy on the creek flats. Gatton is full of backpackers, dont know if thats a negative or not.

Thank @bruce aussie our town is full of backpackers as well as we have a lot of apples, cherries, strawberrys and vineyards so we are use to that. I will be sure to not live near the creeks etc.
Cheers Pete
My kids have lived out that way with the Ex since 2007 , all mostly rural lifestyle , the big smoke closest to there would be Ipswich , now that's a different story........
