I've had two new Yamaha trail bikes and one new Suzuki trail bike and a new z750 and one second hand Yamaha 650 .Every jap bike was faultless . Every triumph ive had except the rocket I have tinkered with and enjoyed .i think the jap bikes are definatly to reliable and a bit boring
If you are referring to me , i've got Reband exhaust system and K&N filters .. other than that my bikes mechanically stock (cosmetic changes only) but i've done 130,000 klms on it since January 2009.
My first 04 rocket bought it in 2011 with 7k std just under 70k now just tyres and oil. The rest exhaust intake tunes heaps cosmetics.Recent 04 indent spring and gear selector grounded it I bought it cheap it has replacement speedo not sure the k s

Bloody hell Subtle, you've lived up to your name on this one. Have you actually answered Mexicans question or have you subtley avoided it. " What the hell is a DETENT spring"?

detent spring is what keep the bike from jumping out of gear, it keeps the gear selector in place against the detent cam (I have not gone into to much detail to keep it simple in laymans terms) it is the only thing I have had to replace on my bike the other time I have spent on my bike has been having fun tinkering trying to improve things and make it MINE

A little from colum and A little from colum B . Was pointing out some r3 solid and problem free, even the early ones whilst exceptions same age etc have failings. Seems to be random. The not knowing what a detent spring , I took as his bike being reliable and problem free. The detent and box being the most common failing.Hopefully you never need to know of detent springs etc unless from choice .although Hanso explanation is 100 per cent ac u rat .
If i was to pick the most reliable bike i'd have to go with Suzuki. I often thought if Suzuki ever merged with a brand like Harley or Triumph their problems would be few if not eliminated.
I believe Honda has perfected the motorcycle and made them most bulletproof. On a different note, I just replaced the second detent spring in my 06 standard.
never owned anything new , not even the ex wife. Always had to pick up the pieces and do the best with what was available mainly old jap bikes first 20 years. Old kwaka z900 s xs 650 yammers . Honda 750/4 all had issues by the time I got them.Next 15 ring years been Harley's pan heads shovels evo s and a couple of triumphs , they all never let me down living on them sole transport once sorted. For mine most reliable was linked to least complicated probably pan head or xs yammy yet neither handled well or very comfortable on long runs. Balance luxuries for reliability ( r3 best balance for me)
