Earlier today I set off on a 165 mile journey on the Rocket and when I tanked her up at the start of the ride, I thought it might be worth doing a proper fuel economy check for the first time, just so I can get to know a bit more accurately what the tank range is on a steady run.
I was loaded up with luggage and I reckon if you take everything into account, myself included with all my biking gear the payload would be approximately 175kg (386lbs).
I was cruising at speeds between 55 and 70mph with the occasional WHOOSH! (like we all do). I would say that it was overall a relaxed and steady ride. Not too hilly either.
So i'm quite pleased that my average over the 165 miles was 54.7mpg if you calculate the distance on the mileometer and if you check the distance using Google maps, I got 52mpg.........That's Imperial Gallons, not US Gallons.

Not bad, me thinks.

Good for you .......I think I would have been a bit more like that too, but my tank bag was preventing me from leaning forward enough to deal with warp speed mode.
 
So....If I go off the bike's tachometer reading, I used 12.47 Litres with 150 miles showing on the clock.
There were three lines showing on the fuel gauge and reading in the manual the max capacity of the tank is 19 litres, so in theory, I had 6.53 litres left in the tank.

Hmm.....It seems as if I could achieve 200 (tacho) miles on one tank.
That doesn't seem too bad.
The Rocket appears to be more tour-able than I had been lead to believe.

I also compared the speedo reading against my Garmin Zumo XT.
Quite a difference in readings. Approx 10% out. Bike speedo is reading high, which is obviously as intended.
 
That's great gas mileage And I thought my odometer was wrong. Sometimes I would get 48 to 50 miles a gallon. I know the book says 33 but sometimes it's much higher than that depending on how you hold that throttle.
 
when my buddy had his new later model we wold fill up after riding and the gallons was almost idenical to my 07.
i thaught that was real good.
i was getting an average of 33 mpg on my 07

So the new Rocket is quite a bit more economical with fuel.
