2011 Triumph Rocket
Hello all!

Went down to do an oil change and noticed this gunk at the back of the engine. It's all caked up, my guess is a gear grease leaking? I'm very unsure, and would greatly appreciate everyone's advice and guidance on how to tackle this issue!

No gear grease, its oil coming from somewhere, can you clean it like with a power washer under there and then check it and post new pictures, the starter has an o ring to keep oil in engine as does the crank sensor, its not coming from above and leaking down is it? Like from oil sensor or cam cover gasket in rear of engine and running down. I would clean that engine spotless first, the crankcase to filter hose if you’re still running stock air filter could also be where its leaking from. All rear of engine, but its gotta be clean and then its easy to find a leak, that stuff looks old like its been there for a long time, burning up, but it is oil from somewhere. Check filter box if you have stock filter settup.

Thank you! I should also note that this bike is still relatively new to me, picked it up at the end of last season. Previously it was leaking at the cam cover gasket, an issue I've come to learn is common from this forum, but I didnt see a source of a leak any higher than what I depicted here.

Plenty of places oil can leak from including casting defects.
Clean it up spotless. Then keep an eye on it.
Could be the check valve for the oil tank leak from the starter. Could be the o ring on the water pump shaft. Could be the oil filter not tight.
Many things it can be.

Theres a boot on the end of the swing arm at engine on intake side, that is your output shaft torsional damper and there is an oil seal in there that can leak causing a mess
