Hey All, I too just bought a 2005 Rocket III and when I went to start it yesterday, I had headlights and horn, but nothing else. The speedomether and tach needles didn't move. Before I got online and learned of the recurring ignition problem, I noticed there is a plug near the battery that is not plugged into anything. I've attached a page from the manual that shows this plug. It's to the right of the battery and slightly left of and below the fuses. Is this supposed to be plugged into something or is this some kind of diagnostic plug in for use at the shop? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I believe what you're looking at bill is the diagnostic connector? About 2" long and the bottom looks like it could plug into an old computer or monitor?
Good news is you have headlights! Have you checked the ignition fuses? If you turn the handlebars full left and full right with the key in and turned on, do you get and changes?
I'm the opposite end of the spectrum from electrically intelligent, but it sounds to me like a fuse or relay issue....unless your headlights have been wired separately (by previous owner?).

First of all, g'day and welcome. Are you related to THE Bill Monroe? If you get a chance, drop into Meet the members and say hello.

I suspect that your problem is either a fuse, or the ignition switch. Fuses are easy to check, if they are okay, and the kill switch isn't killing everything, then the ignition switch is the probably culprit.

Thanks, I will check in. as for related to "THE Bill Monroe", I'm assuming you speak of the blue grass legend. Not that I'm aware of, but all Monroe's in theory come from the Monroe Clan in Scotland that began in a village on the River Roe. Because the village was on the River Roe, all men from that village/Clan came to be called the "Men of Roe" which over the years became Monroe with various spellings because not all people were literate then.

yes, must be diagnostic connector. Thanks

I feel so stupid. Went out to the bike and tried moving the handlebars and that's when I noticed my problem was the KILL SWITCH!! I am so Sorry for bothering everyone!!

Reactions: idk

It's worse when you accidently knock the kill switch at traffic lights and not realise it cause of your heavy gloves and it takes you 5 minutes to work out what went wrong D'Oh!!!!!!
